Hi, I was just wondering if somebody was actually able to make the surface skimmer to work. This is my second one and it's either running out of water or not skimming the surface at all. Any tricks you did would be helpfull.
Thanks

I used a Prism for awhile on a 20. I do not think I ever used or tried the surface skimmer. The surface skiimmer comes with the deluxe I think? From memory: I think you can adjust the surface skimmer and seems like it would not be too hard to make it work. I am not sure of what your actual problem is with the surface skimmer. Got a picture to show us the problem?

I have one of those that I used on a hospital tank for a while.
I HATE THIS SKIMMER... well, to be more precise, I HATE THAT OVERFLOW DEVICE.
the smallest amount of evaporation ruins the setup and the skimmer spins it's wheels and does nothing. I also do not like the fact that the skimmer is hard as it can possibly be to dial in. I had a horrible time getting dry skimate out of it, and an even harder time getting anything but incredibly wet skimate from it. several times I had it overflow into the tank.
If you allready purchased it, I would say contact redsea like Richard and Mark advised. If you can get rid of it and move on, and must have a hang on skimmer, go with a nano-remora, remora, or remora pro. There are other good hang ons like a deltec, and others I am not so sure about like the CPR's and other readily available brands are like as I have not used them (haven't used the deltec for that matter either but I can't image a skimmer that costs it's weight in gold not working).
Good luck.
