Does an emerald crab look all fuzzy white after it has shed its exoskeleton? We have something that obviously resembles our emerald in shape but looks nothing like him... looks very vulnerable if it it is him. Below is a picture taken with a 1 Megapixel camera... haven't gotten our new 8 Megapixel yet.

Could be a gorilla crab. Quarantine it until you get a good ID. If anything, I am sure there are some mantis owners who would like to have it.

It looks to fuzzy to be an emerald crab. Isis's ID as it being a gorilla sounds like a good guess.

If it is a gorilla crab, what is bad about these? What do they attack, if anything? Please advise.

Take a close look at its claws, if theyre serrated its very much carnivorous and will eat almost anything including slow moving stupid fish, bad guy,,, if the tips come to a point that look like a little pad, its most likely a herbivour,,, good guy. Cant really tell from that pic, got a better one?

Will work on getting a better picture... fyi, we found our emerald and he is moving, so it isn't him. Something we got from a tag along, I guess. Just want to make sure he won't hurt everything else. Any suggestions on how to quarantine if we need to do that?

Here is maybe a better picture from something I found on the web... but I still don't know what it is. Doesn't appear to be the gorilla based on pictures of those... anybody else seen this?????
