I'm trying to make a DIY flush kit for my RO unit but the way I have it setup it will flush for a few seconds and then shutoff once the pressure shutoff valve closes.

Anyone have a link that shows the way a flush kit is suppose to be installed?

Or even pictures of how someone has installed a RO flush to their RO unit.

Bump. Does anyone flush their RO? If you do how do you do it?

All a flush kit does is bypass the flow restrictor on the waste line allowing the water to flow at a higher rate and flush the entire system. What kind of valve are you using and where do you have it located?? It should be a manualy operated on-off valve. And yes, I use a flush kit.

It is basically two T connectors and a valve that makes it able to bypass the restrictor:

The problem that I have is this:
1) to get it to start I have to open the output valve, where the pure water comes out, to get it started.
2) once it has started I close the output valve and about 10 seconds after that the flush stops abruptly once the pressure valve shuts off the flow

****Note: the output valve is not the one shown in the diagram, the valve shown stays open to bypass the restrictor when I an trying to flush.

Some how the pressure shutoff valve keeps closing soon after the flush starts and it won't start again unless I open the output valve again, and then it will all happen again once I close the output valve.

The output shouldnt have anything to do with it, the water will naturaly take the path of least resistance, whether the pressure valve is open or closed, the water should still flow through the waste line. Unless you have the pressure valve on the >input< side of the ro unit, stopping the supply, in that case, what youre describing makes more sense. Try opening the output valve and see if it flushes.

Where in Austin are you located? I can come by and check out your set up and see if you have it plumbing correct.

And yes I have an RO system with a flush kit installed and it works great.

My tank is at St. Edward's University on South Congress Ave.

In this case the output will be involved if the unit has an auto shut off system installed. The reason for this is because there will be no water going to the membrane portion of the system at all if the ASO is engaged.
Aquatec makes a product for this that is really cool. I think the DIY thing here is that he would like to create a system that flushes the system automaticaly periodicaly.
Here is a link to the component that has already been designed to do this :)

It actualy flushes the system once every hour for a period of around 18 seconds and only when there is flow in the system.

Enjoy

Bryan,

I periodically reverse the hoses on my RO unit and flush the membrance that way. Obviously I don't do this every hour. How often would you suggest it be done? Thanks for your input on MAAST.

Im cofused?
What exactly do you mean you reverse the hoses?

I reverse the direction of flow across the membrane to back flush it.
