Clearing up Coralline on Glass

My brother just bought a 55 gallon tank from a former reefer. He is going to use it for an Oscar. There is coralline growth all over the back. Although the previous owner scraped most of it off, you can still see it. What is the best method of completely and safely cleaning up the glass?

i have used vinegar. just put the tank on its back and pour in enough vinegar to cover and leave it for a while. you may have to do this a few times if it is really bad. also, a glass cleaner with a razor blade and scrape away, just be carefull around the silicon on the seams!

I use razors..you can buy them at HD or HEB or any store really.. You can also put the tank on its side, and pour some white vinager diluted with water and it will make the coralline algea easier to scrape.

LOL, i could have sword i was the only one who posted!!..good deal!!..Vingar rocks..it destroys Coralline algea..Specially if you do it the way Ace described..it works!

Muriatic acid works too, but is harder to come by and more dangerous to handle. It has the advantage or working a lot faster and with one rinse. Its not something I would recommend for someone that doesn't know about handling acids. If you are working with it outside it can also kill grass or other plants. It does make your driveway look real pretty when you are done soaking the tank though. :)
