I don't know if is me or not but I notice a bit or MAAST site lag whenever I do anything. I've tried opening other sites with heavy graphics and they load and move at normal speed. Is it because there are people logged in, pictures, etc? Just wanted to make a note of it.

The BOD is investigating options to upgrade our site hosting, we have simply reached a membership level that overloads our current resources at times.

We are working on it, please be patient and it will get better.

BTW - Response time is great at 3:00am ;)

It's really not a problem. I just didn't know if it was me or not. I'm looking to be a charter member soon and hopefully that will help out a little with funding.

Not to discourage that Charter Membership ;) but funding is not an issue, MAAST is actually in very good condition financially. The BOD just wants to make sure we are making the correct changes for a justifyable budget amount. There are just so many options available when it comes to site hosting, and Chris does a great job of researching options and then talking over the BODs heads so we don't have a clue what he is saying :huh ;) :lol

Why not find out what hosting company ReefCentral uses? That place blazes! Im sure they have different levels or options.

Chris can check, but my guess is they have a rack of load leveling servers for the site, and a fairly big DB backend to handle the load. An investment a bit our of MAAST's reach ... for now ;)

Is any progress being made to speed this site up?

Yes, it is being worked. We are looking at several options, including porting to different software - we want to do it right the first time, and this may take a little time.

We are VERY aware of the problems and want to get a good long-term solution rather than another band-aid!

Thanks for your patience.

Another month has gone by and nothing has been done about the extreme slowness of this site. I wonder how many first time visitors never return because of the blazing speed of this website?

i dont think that it is a problem with traffic. only 14 people on right now and it is slug slow.

Rebooted the server, seems a bit better now ... I tried to check for "Guest" load, but got tired of waiting!

Software/Hardware migration is in the works!

The problem is apparently not with bandwidth or the number of users. Rather its a problem with the software we are using. The current software has been heavily modified and we have simply outgrown its capabilities. Moving the site to new software is not a simple plug and play function and will require some time to modify the new software to accomodate the modifications.

As part of the upgrade, our webmaster and admin folks are looking into alternatives to our current hosting. Please be patient. We are working on this. The software migration is nearly complete and we are trying to work out details on the hosting options now.
