Some of the best are sometimes lost.

Strange thread, but I bet there's some nice pictures.

I'll pull from my "bone yard" first.

Wow, you lost some of the rarest corals. I have never had those, does that mean they are harder to keep Todd?

Yea, especially CBB. :)

Let's see, he lost his latest one before it even got to his tank. That's a record hard to beat. :)

OK, OK, I know. I'm off topic. Back to your regularly scheduled programing. Sorry Todd, I couldn't resist.

We've been fortunate enough not to lose any corals we've purchased yet. We did, however, lose our Sea Squirts(Tunicates) that showed up on a frag one day, spread until there about 6 or 7, then a few weeks later disappeared overnight. We lost some Xenia as well, to a Blenny who seems to think it was algae. <_<

Pictured here is LP9Ver2.0, he who devours Pulsating Xenia.

Can I borrow your blenny? I'll trade you some Xenia.

He only did it for a week, and only to the larger colonies of pulsating(maybe because after a week it was all mowed down to stubbs), didnt touch the waving hand or pom-pom. There is some half inch growth of pulsating trying to make a comeback.. if he attacks that i'll most likely put him up for sell.. if I can catch him.

You're one to talk!!! You have lost a few too even with all the preaching!!

Oooops .... mine was the PurpleMonster also.

TexasTodd
Sat, 28th Jan 2006, 12:02 PM
No, most of those weren't too much harder to keep, than other sps.

The Texas Purple Monster is pretty touch and that blue tip mint green A. Horrida was very tough.

I lost most of them just before switching to my new larger system. I'd say that 75% were due to overuse of Phosphate binders.

Ya, that A. Florida (or whatever it was, Brian thought possibly a yellow orange A. Hoek...I don't even want to think how rare it was if it was that!) was an amazing coral. Those lucky enough to have seen it live can attest that the photo is not shopped.

Yes, for all here, Steveo and I have an inside joke going: Todd "the fish killer" and Steve "the coral killer". We've both killed some of each, but have a real knack for our titles!

Ya, Pete, you're about the only one I know that "did it the first time"! I'm currently on #4 CBB....alive since Wednesday!

Mikeyboy, I will say, I was a little worried about your Sailfin after we chased it around the tank for 30 minutes to catch it and then my P. Tang took after it like a piece of Nori and kept it in a corner for 2 days......but he's out and doing great now!

MORE PICTURES. I know you all have lost some!

****, you're right Gary, I'm on #5 CBB. I finally got your joke of condemming MikeyBoy's CBB to death, JUST BY HAVING IT PROMISSED TO ME! LOL!

Man, those were some steller clams Clint!

No pics but I have lost some nice ones too.

Todd - I don't think you are feeding enough to keep a CBB long term. They (all butterflies really) gotta eat alot or they go bye bye eventually.

Waited two years to find a teardrop like this one and it died of pinched mantle days after placed into my system

just lost 5 pieces to a slow leak that my RO topoff kept up with, so i didnt even notice - caught it with a salinity reading of 1.016. :o

here are a couple of them - have found duplicates to replace all but one so far, the first one pictured.

some kind of tort we think?

Don't feel with the lone ranger. I lost 2 before I got it figured it out. I think the only person who never lost a CBB is one that never had one. I think I have Larry talked into doing a talk for us on butterflies in general and CBB specifically for one of our upcoming meetings. Most of what I know about CBB I learned from him.

Yeah...auto-topoffs are great but they can be the cause of problems if you aren't carefull...especially if you forget to turn it off when you do a water change. I have done that a few times. Hey Ace where was the water leak??? You didn't notice?? You must have a floor drain...

TexasTodd
Sat, 28th Jan 2006, 03:10 PM
Man Ace, that is one sweet coral in the first pic! Maybe a Soloman Tort? Never seen that color!

Clint, that' is probably the best clam I've EVER seen. Not to make you feel worse. :)

Yes Richard, you're probably right. As you know right now I'm in a battle with proper food amounts for this newer system. I also misunderstood on the muscles for the CBB....I was taking them out of the shell and mincing them up. Then I saw Gary just cut one open and drop it in his system.. and the CBB tear in to it like crazy!

HELL, I'd think there's enough Aptaisa in there, why does he need more to eat!

Jeff, that really, really, really sucks.

PLEASE let us know which on line retailer. It's not really their fault, but would be good to know. I thought I might have had those a while ago, but I think it was actually large swings in PO4.

the leak was on a small frag tank that was on top of my sump. since the tank is in wall, and the leak was slow, most of the water just soaked into the foundation of the house or ran out the vent space in the brick on the outside of the house. on closer inspection, the grout of the tile floor about 3 feet all the way around the tank is darker in color and now i am starting to see salt dust on it. needless to say, the frag tank is no longer on my system and my salinity is back up to 1.023 - slowly gonna bring it back to 1.025. today, things are getting a little color back and all the sps are polypping out again - could have been much worse!

I was home and watched her throw the small wooden chest through the tank. It took lots of strength to keep from going postal on her but I held it in, helped her out the door, and started to pick up fish. Crazy people should all be locked up!
