After some reading, I went ahead and got the ebili angel fish, he is an agressive rock grazer that is for sure. However, I am wondering if anyone is keeping this type of fish with zoos and other softies without any problems? I saw him take a few nips at some zoos, but he seems to lose interest after grazing further on the rocks.
I'm wondering if anyone else has this fish and how it is living in the reef tank.
Please LMK whatcha got!
Thanks!

I had one but not in a reef tank. I had some live rock, but never saw him munching on it. He did however eat 4 or 5 snails, a fire shrimp, emerald crab. Almost every invert there was. He would even pick on the inverts right in front of me. Little Punk. Mine was very territorial. But a very hardy fish.

I had a cherub angel that was doing real good in my reef until i introduced a new clam then he went crazy and started nipping all my clams. So now im getting rid of him.

DOH! Well I noticed this morning that all my little feather dusters are gone, which I expected anyway, the bigger feather dusters are still okay. It seems the other fish don't like him too much, I expect them to chill out after a few days when everyone knows their place. I hope like crazy he don't eat my coral banded shrimp - I know they scuffled a bit last night but the shrimp gave him a good pinch and the Ebili has been steering clear of it. I'll keep everyone posted if I start seeing zoos dissapear he is going for sale really quick.

okay now here is the thing with this little angel. He constantly nips at the rocks for algae, which is a good thing - however, he swims right up to my zoos, xenia or any living thing and acts like he is about to nip at it then swims off. :wacko I caught him nipping at one of my snails :angry - he didn't go crazy, just nipped and swam off. So it the suspense that is getting to me - is he gonna bite it or not? :blink SO - I would like to catch him and put him up for sale - any suggestions on how to catch a fish that likes to swim in the rocks? I heard of fish traps...is there something that I could make really cheap?

heres how I caught my kole tang and cherub angel. take a 2 liter bottle and cut a flap door on the side. stick some food in it and when the fish swim inside close the flap and pull em out. I was able to catch everysingle fish in my tank which is kinda a hassle because you only want a certain fish out. it worked great for me and hopefully itll work for you

Did I nail it or what! They love the snails. If I had a tank up I'd take 'em.

Next time try a Potters Angel. They are mainly vegetarian.

oooh, potters are pretty, one of my favorite dwarf angels! and i love the dwarf angels, i wish i could just have a big tank full of them, but somehow, i don't think that would work out.

I think I am going to steer clear of all angels in my reef...I talked with the LFS that I bought him from and they told me to bring it on in and theyll work out something with me. Beautiful fish, but as I watch him nip at everything it makes me regret purchasing him. I'm gonna try and trap him tonight. Wish me the fish catching luck. Anyone got a mini rod and reel I could borrow?

He's probably just testing it to see if its edible. The other thing to ask yourself is whether you are feeding him enough. You'd eat grass if you were hungry enough. Same with angels.

I've placed seaweed strips, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and even had a rock with algae placed in (which the tang ate up). The angle would swim past all the shrimp while the other fish were going crazy. The angel seems to like my zoos and xenia more than anything, not to forget the snails feet as well. But that is okay - I caught him today and took him back to the LFS. I think I'm going to live with the rule that any angel is not reef safe. It is just like I have heard, it is a hit or miss thing, either they will be reef safe or not, just depends on that particular fishes taste. I have some friends that had angels in their reef with no problems. When they saw him they were suprised. It was a beautiful fish though. If I had a fish only tank I would do angels.

There was actually a very good article in TFH from a couple of months ago about "reef safe" angels. I've had 4-5 different kinds of dwarf angels over the years and never had a problem with them. I guess the moral of the story is to not throw out the baby with the bath water.

i've had good experiences with flame angels, and coral beuties. i think the flames are generally considered among the safer dwarf angels.
