Hey Isis, one of Charter members has asked:
I noticed that the difference between the FULL registration and the CONFERENCE registration is being able to go to the reception and gala. Anyone been to MACNA before and was the reception and gala even worth it?
Can you comment on this for us?

Can you comment on this for us?I guess it depends on what you are expecting. I have been to ones in the past that were fun, and to some that lacked in areas to say the least. What I can tell you what we will offer is two free drink (any drink, non and alcoholic) tickets for each person, and finger foods for all. The people who normally attend are speakers, vendors and of course all the attendees. The atmosphere will be a social mixer, casual of course, where we all can hang out and mingle. In the past there have been speakers, but we are taking a que from DFWMAS, and just keeping it simple. The location is in one of the top floors of the hotel overlooking the city, so the ambiance will be nice. Of course it is still casual and meant to be a social event for all who came.
The banquet on Saturday night is still fairly casual, except that there is a plated dinner, a speaker (or two). This year we have a gentleman who does work at the Flower Gardens. He will be doing a presentation on the beautiful reef that us Texans have in our own backyard, or at least a few hundred mile out in the gulf. The dinner menu hasn't been decided, but we are trying to keep it simple and worth the money. I am not sure if there are any awards that MASNA will be handing out, but traditionally that is what happens.
I hope that has enticed you a little more. I can tell you that once the mixer and banquet are done, we all retire to the hotel bar where you will see many of us having a "good time". ;) Trust me, I will be taking advantage of all that!!!!

Thanks Isis, great overview! Sounds like something I would want to include, maybe not for all, but I will always show up for two free drinks ;)

Thanks Isis, great overview! Sounds like something I would want to include, maybe not for all, but I will always show up for two free drinks ;)I think the thing one should remember is that you are going for the social and ambiance factors of the night events. We aren't making much on the ticket prices, so if you really want to go do something with a group of people and try to nail down some of your fave speakers or friends from across the US, these are the places to do it.
Besides, if you go and find me, I will introduce you to any of the speakers if you would like to chat with them. ;)

I think that is one of the things I look forward to are the Friday and Sat nights where we all fish geeks close the hotel bar down. It is nice when all you have to do is walk to your hotel room. Good times.

Christopher,
There's close to 20 people that need to be added and the admin folks that take care of that have real lives besides MAAST as well as other commitments on MAAST they have to take care of, like answering these posts. Give them a couple of days.

There is also a possiblity that we will be offering a post MACNA Flower Gardens dive trip. Depending on if we get enough interest, there will be 20-25 spots open for $450-550. The trip would be 3-days with 11 dives.
Anyone would be interested in doing this if became available?

Kim,
When are you planning on this? Immediately before or after MACNA? I've dove on Flower Garden's several times and its awesome. Definitely not like diving on a shallow reef, but it has some interesting fish. The Manta Ray's are definitely worth the trip. If you aren't familiar with Flower Gardens, check this out.

We are going to do this after the trip. Basically, the boat would leave Sunday night and we would arrive Monday morning. We would lhave our last two dives on Wednesday morning and arrive back at the dock around 5-6pm that day. I am thinking that we could even get a few of our speakers to make a dive out there too.
