nah i dont think you have enough light in there. :P
i have had mixed results with fresh water dip. the first time i do a 15 minute fw dip in RO water that is about the same temp as the tank. giv it about a week to recover, and if that didn't work, try again for a little longer. this is just what i have done. im not sure i see any pinch in that pic tho.

I think that you need more light... :wacko Isn't it 27 watts per gallon?
I would give it more time to acclimate. I'd bet that it will get much larger.

I think i may just let him ride for now and see what happens. He definetly doesnt have pinched mantle bad, but im afraid he has it a little bit. If im not mistaken this is from not enough light correct? I think i will just leave him alone and feed phytoplex and see what happen. Think that is a good idea or should i dip him? anyone?

i thought that pinch was caused by a protozoan parasite, and the fw dip killed most of them to let the clam fight off the rest of them on its own.
the people at clams direct recommend not doing the fw dip, but quarantining (sp?) and medicating - you may want to check their site, but there was a thread about this a few months ago.

I had a derasa that started to have a pinched mantel, from what I rember you use tap water with dechlorifer, the one that i use also has aloe with tap water the PH is closer to your tank with the salt in it.

Its also good to do this when you first buy one anyways after acclimation, gets rid of any parasites/bad stuff.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of clam grow out system quality marine has, but thats where he came from. I seriously doubt hes wild considering almost everyone aquacultures clams now. I just asked on clamsdirect so they shoudl defintly be able to help me out.

he looks to be ok.. what kinda light do you have it under??
you might need more light. as far as fwd, make sure your temp. and ph match that of your tank water. less stressful for the clam. pm is not cause by the lack of light. it is a protozoan that causes it. it can be treated with medication, but would require a QT. Do you have other clams in the tank with it? if so you always want to QT any new clams incase of the protozoan. also check for the little snails. ( can't think of what there called at the moment). they can cause them to pm also. but a fwd will take care of them. if you do have a protozoan pm. fwd will help but may not cure it.
and check your Ca and Mg levels.
sorry for the long post

I had a clam with a pinched mantle. I just checked to make sure it didn't have pyramid snails and then just let it be (other than feeding, light, good water quality) and it recovered just fine.
I'm no expert but from what I have read they seem to be getting mixed results with the fw dips and/or treatment with metronidazole.

Thanks for the help guys. For now im gonna let him be and see how he does. He has plenty of light 222w over 12g. The water quality is also good so he should recover just fine.
