I would say this is very important NOT to but a tank from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last March I purchased a 10g tank from them which was drilled and first used as a fuge, well since my upgrade to a bigger fuge and sump I turned this tank into a propagation tank that sat on my dresser next to my other tanks and ran off the same system.

This past weekend I was out of town in New Mexico while my brother was still in town and he called my up on sunday night says the tank is leaking well by the time he got home from work and found out it already leaked out at least 45+ gallons of water since the sump only had about 2in of water left.

Needless to say that my dressor is runnied and all my clothes were soaked when I got home Monday night, the carpet is still a little moist today and their is a big water spot on the celling down stairs. :angry

SO DONT BUY A TANK FROM FOREVER PETS/AQUA TRENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF YOU DO HAVE ONE GET RID OF IT OR HAVE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING RESEAL IT!

I rember someone starting a law suit against them, does anybody know how that happened? From what I can tell the tank leaked at the seam on the bottom glass.

You know its bad when I have had my 10g freshwater tank from Petsmart for over 16yrs and still has never leaked, the one from aqua trends is less than a year old with less than normal use with one 2lb LR and frags. :angry

Oh MikeyBoy, where are you?

I think this has been documented here at least 3-4 times in the recent past! Everything from faulty seams to cracked bottom glass - all resulting in water on the "wrong" side of the glass, and less than cooperative help from them ;)

Mike never sued Aquatrends. He was able to get his credit card charge reversed and his home owners insurance covered the damages to his house.

Aquatrends did not honor their warranty. They claimed he dropped rock on the glass. The problem with that was that they set up his tank, not him, so if there was damage caused during set-up, it was by their own staff.

Kind of funny, Aquatrends has a "D" rating with the BBB. Check it out... (http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=131167 65)

dumb question, but is there anything i can do to prevent a leak, like maybe reseal all the edges or....... id probably freak out if my tank started to leak or got a crack. i think the peoplpe who live below me would probably freak out too if my tank leaked and not because ive worked oh so hard on getting it up and running.

What brand is the tank? I wouldnt worry about getting a leak unless the tank is really old or a just cheap. If your tank is newer and any name brand theres nothing to worry about.

You can drain the water a little bit and look on the inside lip of the tank and you will see a sticker that tells the date the tank was made. Check it out.

FWIW...I have had oceanic, perfecto, heart of texas, nature's view, & aquatrend tanks leak over the 25+ years I have been in the hobby.

We started the store all aquatrend tanks. 120 of them I think (15, 20, & 55 gallon tanks). None of them have leaked.

well richard, i would have to say that's the most possitive endorsement for AT i've ever heard.

LOL...I don't know if I would call it an endorsement since we have never sold them. Just making the point that some percentage of ANY brand of tank will fail.

I agree completely, with the caveat that it's how you handle those failures that makes the difference.

I wouldn't expect a company to replace my chlothes because I had the tank sitting over them on a dresser, or clean my carpets. I feel those are inherent hazzards to the hobby, all hobbies have hazzards why should this one be any different. We all know that one day if you've been in this hobby long enough you will feel that wonderful squish squish beneath your feet. I would however expect them to take care of a faulty tank, and what I've seen lately from them they have decided to ignore that responsibility.

I recently purchased a used AT tank. The bottom seals on it failed. AT repaired the tank but the owner had to pay them to beef up the cross bracing which he felt may have been the cause.

I was hesitant to purchase the tank, but after seeing the upgrades I was more confident in its trustworthiness. I do plan on doing some serious testing of it before I put it into operation.

10 gallon tanks of almost any make can be expected to leak because they're cheap (the sealing job is often crummy), and they have very thin glass (IMO, they're better off as small animal enclosures). If they are placed on an uneven surface, even slightly uneven, too much stress is placed on the seams. A friend of mine has had multiple ten gallons leak.

The last time I had a ten gallon, I placed a sheet of styrofoam underneath to help prevent this. Sorry to hear about the water damage. HTH

I wouldn't expect any service out of AT especially from other articles that I have read, and on the experience I have had with them, never the less of them to clean my carpet or replace my clothes, which are fine after a few loads of wash except for the celling still trying to figure out what to do on that.

Even though they should still be held liable for making faulty tanks, just like if you had those firestone tires on your SUV get rid of them.

The point of this thread is just to let everybody know that another tank of theres has falled and it seems to be a reaccuring event. Just a Warnning for those who still have one of there tanks be carful and it will always happen when you are out of town. ;)

only good thing i have seen from them is they drill cheap holes and they are cleaner looking than some other places
