I just added a new member to the family to go along with my 125rr, it is a 175rr bow front.

Now I need some advice as to how to plumb it I have a sump 3 for it and a 28 tall that will be used as a fuge. What kind of pumps do you suggest I want to use external pump(s) to save on the heat as it will have 2-400watt and 1 250 watt mh and vho or pc antics. I plan to use a ASM G 3 or 4 skimmer with the mod kit. I have a 36 watt uv already and plan to run a phoso ban reactor on it as well. How about power heads? I use maxijets now and a wave maker
Probally go with 250 to 300 pounds of rock and same for sand.
The plan is to make this a mixed reef with a low bio load as fish are going to be kept limited.
Any suggestions would be appericated

Sounds good to me.

1. I would do some more planning on how you are going to control heat with either fans or a chiller.

2. If you are going to start the tank from scratch I would consider a closed loop rather then powerheads.

3. You may want to re-consider using a "tall" tank for a sump unless you are going to have it on a tall stand. A 30 gal. tank may be more workable.

4. What about a refugium?

Gary, this what he said

Thanks for the catch. I meant to rethink using the 29 for the fuge. Its going to be hard to get into under a normal stand.

thanks for the info, the stand is high enough to put the tank and light under it. i might consider a closed loop can you give some ideas on set up and the pumps to use to give me enough flow for a tank this size...thanks

I did not list it but i have 5 fans for the top and will install a few underneath...hope to avoid a chiller if possible due to the tanks location in the house.

For a closed loop a good choice would be to use a sequence and OM. The sequence provides tons of flow and the OM is great for random flow.

If you are looking at the ASM skimmers, I'd go with the G4 for that size tank. I think you'd be pushing the limits of the G3 for it. Another option is to check with CB Pets on the new CoralVue skimmers that they just got in. They are very similar in design to the Euroreef/ASM skimmers and appear to be much less expensive. There's a thread under the Retailers Corner called CV Skimmers if you want more info.

For flow I'd go closed loop , or go with Tunzes or the less expensive Rio Seios for flow. So far I haven't heard anything but good about the Seios so far. Either of these pump setups could give you good flow with less power to run them over the large external pumps for closed loop.
