Does it have an O ring that seal the impellor cover? If so, it may be pinched or worn and needs to be replaced. I assume you have already tried tightening down the cover?

yes Gary, I tried what I know, but still leaks from the front part of the shaft, the space where you can see the shaft, the forward most part

any Ideas, is there a place where they fix pumps?

Jose, wish I could help. But, it does bring up the question of a backup pump. I have a Sequence Dart. What be a good backup? or should I just get another Dart and then use it while I rebuild the other one?

If there is anything I can do, just let me know, Jose.

Good luck,
John

I sounds like a shaft seal has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Contact dolpin and purchase the sw seal kit for your pump. That is the only way that you are going to fix your pump. That is my recommendation based on details provided.

Henry,

Is this a common occurence with pumps? Would it be wise to have a kit on hand for your pump?
Thanks (and sorry, Jose, for sidetracking your thread, but at least you get a bump. ;) )

from my understanding the seals regular seal will fail under the harse conditions of SW. Dolphin makes a SW seal which last longer, typically about 3 years. So yes I would say to be on the safe side have one on hand.

bprewit, call me and also id the problem as the seal, here is his pm to me:
Hey here are a couple of sources for your seal. Marine Depot carries them for $26 and it is their newer version of the seal for marine enviorment and direct replacement from Dolphin.
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem. ... uct=DP2913
Just like everything else in this world most likely Dolphin does not manufacture their own seals instead source them from suppliers and best I can tell they use all stainless trim (spring etc), viton elastomers (the o-rings and bellows -bellows being the inside of the rotating face elastomer that seals onto the pump shaft-) a ceramic stationary face (the part of the seal that dosent turn and is pressed into the rear of the pump housing) and a silicon carbine rotating face (they call it carbon). Grainger carries these seals for their Dayton brand pumps. Grainer locations in SA are here:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/br ... ults.shtml
It is very possible that the Grainger seals are not the same dimensions as yours ie. different shaft diameter etc. but from what I have found they are using the same brand electric motors which should make the seals compatible. Here is info and picture of a Dayton pump:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/it ... mp;ccitem=
and part number, picture, description of the replacement seal is here:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/it ... mKey=4VB10
The seal only comes with the stationary and rotating face- none of the metal trim such as the spring but you should be able to reuse your existing metal trim parts on this seal. Let me know if it the picture of the seal looks anywhere close to yours? When replacing the seal its very important to make sure you treat the actual seal faces with extreme care so as not to scratch them and its best to clean them with regular rubbing alcohol and a q-tip before and during installation.

hopefully this will help a lot of us, I'll be getting my seals(more than one) soon
