looking good. I like the open look of a large tank. Plus it gives a lot of swiming room for the fish.

Good looking tank! I am sure that you have put tons of effort to get where you are! :)

BTW, how large is your tank?

mine isnt grown up yet, it like a teenager, all feet and arms. wait till it fills in, then we can call it grown up. right now its just a tank full of frags.

this month, im a little late. had a small leak, and over a couple of days, my autotopoff replaced the 60 gallons of salt water that leaked out
with nice fresh RO water. when i finally figured it out, my spec. gravity was 1.016. that was two weeks ago, and almost everything is on the
road to recovery. lost 6 small colonies and frags of sps and almost lost my gigas clam.

well, i treat for red bugs tomorrow, but here is this month's update. you can also see the last of my plates that was on the sandbed, thought i might have
saved it by moving it into the rocks a couple of days ago, but i dont think it is gonna pull thru :( the one that is in the rockwork it doing fine still. i think i am
getting a little better at the pictures - they are starting to look more like the tank in personl.

well, its that time again. update: red bugs - havent seen any since treatment 6 weeks ago, cyano problem that i thought was from the tank
cycling after treatment was actually bad RO/DI filters - those are coming in this week and im running phosban right now. everything with the
exception of that yellow gonio is doing well.

Ace,

In my tank I only have 5 fishes... And they have their special places were they sleep... some of them weird places... like on top of a power head... or between to rocks... And every night they sleep in the same spot... what about yours? Any funny or special places? is it different every night?

hobogato
Mon, 31st Jul 2006, 05:54 PM
they pretty much all have their own territories - especially at night. the funniest thing is to watch the big vlamingi tang turn his body vertical - head up and back down into the top of the center island of rocks. then any time he hears a noise, he comes up out of the rocks and all you see is his mouth and his eye.

september pics - i took jerry's advice and put up a black background for the pics. this is also the first pic with my new luminarc mini knockoff reflectors and first pics since i moved my pc actinics down closer to the water level. im pretty happy with the results. also threw in a few of random coral pics.

How are you getting your sps to grow so fast.. the couple I bought from you havent grown to much.. Nothen close to what yours is doing..

hobogato
Sun, 3rd Sep 2006, 10:29 PM
lots of light, my calcium stays around 500, and my alkalinity stays high as well. not all of my corals are growing so fast. i dont remember what you got from me, but you may have ended up with some of the slower growers.

TheOtherGuy
Sun, 3rd Sep 2006, 11:48 PM
Wow - Now that you got that Nano tank going you should try your hand at bigger tank - maybe a 2400 gallon tank?? LOL. Things are growning nicely.

urban79
Mon, 4th Sep 2006, 09:57 AM
I got the green slimer, purple and pink tip arco, and some monapora. See thats what i dont know. I got 2 250 MH over my tank. Do I need some vhos?? I dont know what I keep my calcuim at. But I do dose my tanks everyday..

hobogato
Mon, 4th Sep 2006, 10:03 AM
you should be testing for anything you dose. you may not be dosing enough, or you may be dosing too much - it is hard to say without testing

the slimer is usually a fast grower, as is the montipora cap, but the austera (the one with the pink tips) is not as fast a grower in my tank. i actually lost almost that entire colony :( - managed to save a few tips. actinics (vho or other) probably wont help much with growth, but you will get much better coloration in your corals (make sure they are true actinic - 420 nanometer).

I was there this weekend and asked what he dosed with, his answer? Colonies. He just doses the tank liberally with colonies. I asked him if that was anything like B Ionic and he just looked at me funny. Anyone know where I can get this colony?

It was the most colorful tank I've ever seen. Seriously. I've seen some tanks that took my breath away because of the devotion put into them. I was blown away looking at colonies the size of dinner plates. Ace doen'st have dinner plates yet, maybe if he wasn't so nice always sharing frags with us. But the sheer amount of variety is truly amazing. After about 2 minutes of trying to put names to everything it just sort of turns into the "blue one over there" or "what about that yellow guy?"

Great tank Ace and all the frags have polyped for me.

Definitely looks more open. I see your using the old gluing frags to overflow method. I too use that method. Good job Ace. Your tank is always a work in progress.

well, as some of you know, i have been putting together a 180 for christy and her micromussa/acan collection. that tank will actually be the new home to all of the lps in the 240 as well. that means i got to do a little rearranging of the rockwork and corals now that her tank is pretty much starting to take on corals. i took out about 50 pounds of liverock and alot of sand. i only kept one blasto, a couple of chalices, and the rest are sps. i just left in enough sand to cover the bottom. the fish really like it.

That looks great Ace...That is similar to what I have in mind. Three islands with perhaps a valley in there somewhere....I picked up a bunch of rock today...and I set it up to start curing. I was telling my brother about your tank, I am going to have him tag along one of these days I come over to talk to you...can't wait to see Christy's tank.
