Is anyone keeping these type of acroporas? FOr example A. Hyacinthus or Efflos. etc.... If you are, is it a wild colony or aquacultured? I am seriously considerind an A. hyacinthus but I know the mortality rates, especially if wild caught. WHat is your experience?

I have tried a few small colonies, wild I think, without much luck. I have strayed away from the $100+ colonies and went with stuff I knew had a better chance.

Watching this one because I would like to add a few down the road.

Good topic :)

Agreed, good topic. These can be some of the most colorful corals you can add to your tank. But it has been my experience that they are the most delicate, especially wild colonies. If I could get my hands on a nice aquacultued piece, Id try it, but otherwise I wouldnt spend my money on it...

I probably never would consider a wild colony, but like you guys I would like to try an aquacultured frag or colony maybe. All i know about them is that they need a lot of lighting and tons of flow. I think I have both of those covered but I still would like to do some research beforehand. I think fishypets has some, I hope he can give us some input.

If you like tables but are a little leery about trying them, I suggest trying A. Sarmentosa, its a beautiful lime/orange table thats almost bullet proof. Even wild ones seem to do well in an established tank with decent parameters. I have several tables both wild and cultured and they all do well in high, gentle, alternating flow with good light. What they dont like is stagnant water or low flow that allows any kind of sediment to collect between the branches.

cool thanks Jim, I will have to look into those. Light and flow are not a problem for me. I have a tunze 6060 in my 29g nano and a maxijet to give more random flow. I have 250w of metal halide, i thnk its plenty. I just dont like going into new stuff before prior research and this is where I am at right now. i appreciate everyones input but I feel we have only scratched the surface. Keep the info coming.

Nice coral choice, one of my favorites. As you can see from deepsea they need a lot of room to grow. This is a problem I am running into with mine, for now he is O.K. but really starting to grow. Eventually I will need to move mine from the top of the tank down to the bottom.

Yeah, I would like to give them a try, never had one before and they are just amazing. Which type are you guys keeping? Any hyacinthus by any chance?

i have a small frag of pink/blue hyacinthus, it is alive, but doesnt seem to be growing like all of my other sps. polyps are out, so i dont know what to think. may be getting an efflo and stilo frag in the near future - see how that goes eh?

Nice prics brian, sure wish I could see the bigger table though. What do you think so far on growth, fast, medium, or slow?

I just saw some frags of a couple of table acros on reefermadness. Pretty good deal too. 15 frags for $150.00 cant beat that. so where is our pic brian?

Wow, that thing is big. Thats a very impressive tank Jim. Awesome clams. What size of tank is that? Are you using 250 or 400?

Thanks, its a very crammed 60 gallon. The majority of those pics were taken using 250 watt XM 10k's on a CV electronic ballast with 185 watts of very old vho actincs. Ive since installed new vho's and a new xm, the colors are much more vivid and richer with the new bulbs.

If youre refering to DSCO1240, Its an A. Valida tri-color I got from Seaworld S.A. a couple of years back. I think I have two or three colonies of that, Im planning on limiting the ammount of repeat acros I have, so some of these may become available soon.

So a samoensis is a table acro? its by far one of my favorites, along with the A. Nobilis and A. Abrolhoensis. Does anyone know where I can get an electric green efflo?
