I am considering ditching my X10 controls and going to hardwired control with the Ocelot (http://www.appdig.com/ocelot.html) unit. Mostly looking for lighting control & timing, plus maybe closed loop pumps. Not lookng to "monitor" anything, I prefer to keep that stuff manual (safe!).

Does anyone have first hand experience using the Ocelot? If so, I would appreciate any good/bad experience.

Also, if anyone has an alternate (inexpensive) PLC they could recommend, I really would like something with a decent programming interface where I don't need to get down to the ladder logic level.

Thanks!

I did a search on RC and found a little info. The only thing I wish it had was a more robust serial interface so I could attach an LCD panel. I can attach a serial LCD package, no problem, but will be limitted to 128 pre-programmed messages - not very useful for parameter display if I ever add a temp probe or something.

The most flexible solution would probably be something like This (http://www.zworld.com/), but not sure if I want to leap up to a single board computer ... but that would be fun :D

Yes I have, looks good, but not enough control circuits. I have at least 12 lights to control, 16 if I do it the way I want to, and 5 closed loop pumps I kinda would like to control, and the Kalk reactor, and, and, and ... :D

What type of programming interface?

Doesn't much matter, I would consider almost anything. The Ocelot has a nice GUI interface, but that comes with some limitations. Other end of the spectrum is a Single Board Computer I could program in "C". I could also go with a low-end PLC (Allen Bradley or similar), but that seems like a huge overkill.

Know of anything in-between 8) ?

After some digging, I found the 2.0 version of the software manual for the Ocelot that fills the gap on some of the features I was looking for :)
