Cyano

I have been busy these past couple weeks starting a new job and all so I haven't seen the tank much. I was messing with it yesterday and found a patch of cyano growing that is roughly 3" x 3". This patch is on the tip of a rock directly under a 250-10K with intermittent strong flow from an eductor that is 3-4" away. I can watch it "sway" when the eductor is inline so I guess it isnt flow that gets rid of it as there is plenty and it grows well under light too!!!

It usually grows in dead spots. I was under the impression that it wouldnt grow in high flow areas. This is odd. Just as an emergency, I would frag everything and sent it my way if I were you.

Sure it is cyano? So much wierd stuff grows in these tanks - only takes a tiny spot on a new coral to get started! Everything I "call" cyano doesn't hold onto the surface of anything with any grip and gets washed away easily with a turkey baster?

Its cyano you are more than welcome to come see. I will hit it with chemi clean tomorrow and will bet it will disappear.

I was going to suggest chemi clean.

I clean the edge of the glass and sand when I do water changes and it puts it in the water column so Im sure it came from there.

In Mike Paletta's slideshow he showed the same thing except with a tunze and the cyano was on an acro. The Cyano had been there for a long time and once he pointed it away the cyano went away. I dont remember him saying why it grew in only that one spot though...

So I guess its a different strain or we have been fooling ourselves all this time that flow will get rid of it.
