I just bought a 2.5in crocea clam and it acts like it is trying to burrow into the sand, should I be worried? I have a 4.5 in tiger stripped derasa that does fine, I have had him for about 8 months. :huh

Clams will kinda spit or shoot water esp when there new to your tank. Take a regular sea shell and put it underneath him so it makes kind of a little dish, and he will attach to the shell then bury that under the sand a little. Croceas like to attach to something hard.

Where'd you get the clam, just curious.

Yeah, one time Ross and I were unpacking a shipment and he was taking a clam out of a bag and it squirted a big ole stream of water straight into my mouth. I felt so violated :lol

a few weeks ago when I was draining my 110 and we were down to the last 1" of nightmare sludge water the siphon on the hose broke, I was on a chair holding the line down, so my buddy brian (buckykatt here) did the ol mouth on hose and siphoned on it... he took a mouthful... I laughed. uncontrollably. he was a great sport about it too.

He didn't laugh to hard when I did the same thing 20 minutes later.

mm... nothing like saltwater, fish poop, and detritus.

I got it at aquatech. It isn't open as much now as it was at the store, but it's under 400 watt mh now and I'm not sure what it was under at the store. Hopefully, it will get used to the lighting and open up more.

Have you tried feeding it? Since it is still small it might not depend just on photosynthesis to feed.

Yup, at 2.5in your gonna need to feed it phytoplex. Take a 2 liter bottle and cut the top off so you just have the funnel type part, then put that over the clam and squirt the phytoplex inside. That prevents the flow from blowing it all away and gets the clam alot more food.
