* please note. Do not do this. this is tounge in cheeck humor, the best I can make out of rotten situation.

Step 1) Notice that your tanks water level is low.
Step 2) Decide it's time to top it off.
Step 3) Put the RO/DI hose into the tank, turn on.
Step 4) Forget
Step 5) Go to work
Step 6) Get call from wife 9 hours later about the 'sopping wet carpet'.
Step 7) Tell your boss there is an emergency and run home
Step 8) Crawl over the mountain of towels your wife put out to soak up the water.
Step 9) Start mixing up some super super saline salt water.
Step 10) bring salinity up from 1.005, to 1.023 over the course of 2 hours.
Step 11) Take stock of what your idiocy has done.

Clown Pair - Survived
Purple Tang - Survived
Lemon Tang - Survived
PJ Cardinals - lookin around goin 'Yo... whasup?'

Crabs - toast
Snails - all toast but one super tough turbo
Sponge - lovin life
Star Polyps - retracted - questionable
Zoanthid Colonies - partial melting apparent after 12 hours
Shrooms - partial melting apparent after 12 hours

Step 12) add a a butt load of carbon, push skimmer down to it's wettest setting.

NOTE: 6 months ago my old tank ovreheated and my rose anemone bleached. he's still around, but went from the size of a baseball to the size of a penny. HE IS STILL ALIVE. crazy.

AIPTASIA - nothing, gone, kaput, toatally gone.

looks like larry may get out of giving me 8 nudis! :) :) lol.. I am sure they will come back en-mass...

Step 13) Change water when I get home
Step 14) Change water on Saturday too
Step 15) take a guess.. another water change...

It has been a long time since I heard a great story like this one. Reminds me of the time when I had Oscars in my 135 and I started refilling the tank with the garden hose. Left it and went outside to mow grass. Carpet soaks up alot of water and wifes do get mad. Hope everything makes it through the ordeal.

I have done that one! Filling up Cichlid tank and off to do other things. Hours later wifey asks me "Did you mean to fill up the living room with all this water?" - Yes, I say, I want to see how much water our house holds.

wow, you've had some hard luck. i hope things get back on track. you should rent a steam cleaner, that will suck up most of the water out of the carpet and padding, then run the AC and some fans for a few days to evaporate the rest off. you don't want mildew, and mold in your carpet, it gets pretty nasty. after remodeling several houses, and tearing out carpets, and seeing what's under there, i decided, only hard surfaced floors for me!

blueboy - we got most of it up by using towels, but we are going to have the carpet steam cleaned when we get back from vacation. there is simply no viable way to do that right now.

I do have lots of fans running on it right now.
