I was looking at a skimmer the this morning and is say external use. Can it be run in the sump. It is a recirculating skimmer looks like a euroreef knockoff here is the site that is came from http://www.proteinskimmer.com.cn/c/cn/M_ViewImage.asp?ProductID=2007&user=
Thought about trying it out to see what it might be capable of. I emailed them and have got a response but no foot prints size so I emailed them back for it.[/url]

Yes it can, looks like you need an overflow to make it work, you need an overflow coming down from your tank, into the skimmer..And with that valve, you control how much water goes into the skimmer, thats how you control if you want wet (recommended) or dry skimate.

that is what I noticed I was planning on drilling 2 holes for 1" bulkheads with a surface skimmer for the sump anyway, so that is not a problem at all. I was sent a quote for the skimmer and pump comparable to the sendra 9000 for 120. I have the price list for the company here I will post it when I get a chance.

Looks like a good skimmer, let me know how it works when/if you decide to get it.

I will reef thanks for the info. I thought that is could but just not sure. Never had a sump before now.

Well, you'll see the benefits of more water volume soon ;)..Hope everything goes well..

I see no problem eather just make sure the pump can be run sumbmersiable, I would recomend running it out side if possable so you dont add the heat of the pump running in the water (If you have temp problems). Just use one of the drains to power it and you should be fine.

One problem with in-sump may be venturi operation. If the venturi is underwater with the aur supply connected, it needs to "suck" harder to pull air into the venturi to the paddle wheel. Probably will be fine, but I have had experience with venturi's who volume of air can be reduced when under water 6-12". Not sure the physics behind it, but something to do with pressure difference.

Also, you don't need to force a great deal of water through this type of skimmer. In fact, slower movement through the skimmer will result in more complete skimming, and less chance of bubbles exiting into the sump. You could fed it with a small Mag (5 or 7) probably.

Yep, when I had my aquamedic turboflotor, the valve was barely open, it did a great job.

well I was planning a two drian just because if one go cloged for what ever reason the other would work but if I get this skimmer I will have to rethink things a little. I am trying to eliminate as many powerheads and pumps inside the tank as possible, so I would like to feed it through an overflow bulkhead. I will have to put ball valve on the input that is fine. On problem I might run into is metric to inches might have a had time making PVC fit correctly. inlet says 20mm roughly 3/4" output 50mm roughly 2" will have to do some thinking or just get it and custom to it. If it is better to run it outside sump then that is what I will do if I decide to get it. FOr 120 with pump almost hard to pass up if(big if) it works well enough for a 45g with 20g sump. Time will tell may try to get it in Jan. or so. Will keep everyone updated.
