View Full Version : Pics of my 215 that I don't like

I haven't been thrilled with how my 215 has turned out so I'm in the process of ripping it apart. I'm going to make some changes to the rockwork and then restock with different acros picked for color and growth form to get the "look" that I want. I've already removed a bunch of stuff but thought it might be good to get some pics to look back on. Sorry my camera ain't the best and this is as good as it gets...

Green Digitata. I've already fragged a bunch of it so it was much bigger. Thing is like a weed taking over my tank.

The tank...not that it sucks but I kinda had a picture in my head when I was setting up the tank and this isn't it. I stocked my tank with mostly browned up or damaged corals from the store back when we were redoing our setups. So this time around I'm only going to take home corals that I actually want.

The set up is nice and it looks as if everything colored up.

what's the round yellow colored coral at the far right of pic 2?

Richard

It was sold to me as alveopora but I'm sure it's some kind of goniopora.

Looks horrible Richard, you should sell everything in it really cheap, or just give it away & start over :skeezy

Very nice, I'm sure your "new" setup will be awesome!

Really?! What's not to like about it?

We do this all the time, don't we? That is, start something. It's not what we had in mind, so we make some changes. Then we make more changes, etc.

Of course, I just don't know when to stop (that's what my mother always told me, too) and I end up messing everything all up.

I think the tank looks great like it is.

I think its pretty cool looking. :) Although personally I would have put more rock in there for more coral space. ;)

Nice Richard! Corals do grow pretty in the country! :D

What is that really pink looking colony just to the right of the middle down low....above the brain looking corals? :ph34r

Pink digitata. From a frag I got from Andrew who got it from someone who got it from someone who got it from someone who got it from someone who got it from Jim Norris. Apparently all roads lead back to Jim Norris, kinda like the Kevin Bacon game.

That's another one that has to be moved. As it has grown the favia below it has gotten mad and put out long sweeper tentacles to keep it from growing over it.

Ah, I wondered that! I have some of that long lineage coral too! Although about 1/100th the size!

He's been fine, never bothers anything. I have a couple croceas, a squamosa, and various lps and he doesn't even look at them. You can't really see them in the pics but I have a couple of lobophyllia brains and they are supposed to be one of the "tastier" lps and he doesn't pay any attention to them. I'd say they are at least as safe as a CBB if not more. I also have a CBB in there but I guess he was camera shy when I took those pics. They get along fine and neither have caused any problems.

I also want to add a pyramid butterfly (H. polylepis). They are supposed to be a very safe butterfly also. It's been hard to find one though.

The pink digi actually came from an order. . . but i believe a few other frags made the trek from Jim Norris' tank to mine, then to Richards. . .

How many of yall have at least one of Jim Norris' corals or a frag of one? (a good poll topic?)

Richard,

I think that tank is pretty darn nice.................but its a hobby, and if it turns you on to tear it down and start anew.............get after it.
Oh, and I will take some of the coral you dont want anymore!!

I personally think it is BEAUTIFUL!!

Oh I'm definitely not tearing it down and starting over from scratch. That would be way too much work and create alot of headaches that go with a new system. Just making fairly minor changes to the rockwork and making room for more sps and removing some things that don't float my boat or grow too aggressively to keep with the sps.

Thanks for the compliments though. Once it's done and the new things are growing in I'll post some "after" pics on this thread. Hopefully it will be an improvement. I hope :unsure .

Well almost done maybe some pics later today. Man what a pain though! You move a rock that was a counter balance so the rock beneath it shifts causing everything to start shifting AHHHHHHHHH!

To make it harder my stupid scooter blenny jumps on every rock I pick up to go pod hunting so I had to be careful not to squish him. Plus the whole time my midas blenny and maroon clown are mad and biting the <insert word of your choice> out of my arm.

Oh...and for anyone who is thinking of trying Borneman's "ship corals dry thing". I had to get my big orange cap out of the way so I sat him on the counter with a damp paper towel on him.

Boneman says you can ship them that way so it will be fine for 1 1/2 hours right? WRONG!!! It died all around the edges. The center is ok but I'll have to frag the rest of it off.

Did you change your aquascaping or did you add more live rock? We'll be waiting for the pics.

Couldn't get very good pics so these will have to do. A new camera is on my wish list but until then I'll just have to get Mark to come over and take some decent pics.

I still want to do a little on the right side but that's where the anemone lives and my maroon gets mean when I put my hands over there. At least I have room for more acros now :) .

Thanks for the compliments. If things go as I hope, in 6 months you won't really see the rockwork.

I came up short on the type of rock shapes that I needed. So a big THANKS to Philipe at FA for hooking me up with a couple of pieces of caribean rock that worked perfect and let me get it finished.
