I have a 29 gallon. I am setting up a closed loop system as seen here.

I'm using a Mag 7 pump, 700 gph. Is that flow rate going to be too much for my little 29 gallon reef (I have not started yet..it's a christmas present to myself so I can change things up without any disruption to a reef system.)

If I need to limit the flow rate which is the best way
a. ball valves
b. dimmer switch to the power for the mag 7 (would this hurt the drive in any way???)

Also how do I calculate flow rate after I limit it? Just guess :-P

He set up the exact same thing on his 29 gallon tank not too long ago. He said its lots of good flow :)

If your worried about the flow, a ball valve would help you reduce it. It wouldn't hurt to install one when you do the plumbing. If you don't need it, just leave it open the whole time. I would never put a dimmer switch on a pump!!!

Thanks that's what I was looking for!

I put ball valves in mine when I built it. His instructions include the ball valves, but the pictures don't. Good deal. This is my first tank so I'm takin' it slow and asking lots of questions. I look forward to coming to meetings n stuff maybe starting in January. You guys sound like a pretty good bunch!
