3. Prevent abuse to marine animals in general, and to conserve the marine environment by promoting intelligent, planned reef management systems;
4. Promote higher standards of health and care provided by local commercial outlets;
5. Organize workshops, seminars and discussions related to all aspects of the hobby;
6. Raise and generate funds and create financial resources to meet these goals; and
7. Coordinate with and support similar societies devoted to like-minded interests.

So..I took the time to STUDY, and researched before i posted anything..wanted to know if anybody had tried it before..

It's amazing, people get torn up nicely on RC but I've never had a problem. I think we should send miked over there for some recon work.

I think it depends on which thread and section your in. If your following along a tank build up (which is fun in the large reef forum) most of those guys/gals are fairly nice and won't rip you to shreads. Now if you go into the equipment forum and ask how does a bolt and nut go together, your just asking for it!!! You just have to be aware of whats been posted in the manor it was presented.

Yeah that is a major pain. Do you pay the annual dues?? They say if you pay up, the search feature is more reliable ;) I'm going to pay up one of these days. I'm tired of waking up in the middle of the night to try to search for something lol

so pretty much all you guys are saying is that in order for me to get a "polite" response i have to word my post to your likeings? if you dont like the way i write then im going to either get an *** response or no response at all, correct? so what your saying is that this would have been a better post:

Hello fellow MAAT members, how is your day? well to get straight to the point i was just wondering if any of you know of another reef site? if i remember correctly it was somthing like reefman, or reeftime. im unsure though. if some one could help me out real quick that would be great. i know it would probably only take you a sec to reply back with the answer so i thank you.

::pete::
Thu, 8th Dec 2005, 09:04 AM
Thats better :lol

In all honesty I think it was the amount of questions asked and the simplicity of the answers. All some are trying to say is that the answer is here or right on a site where the "item" in question would be purchased.

For example ... What does the "W" mean in 10K 250W ...

When 20 or more of these get asked it might make someone feel like they are doing your research. We are all here to help .... ;)

Its not the way the post is phrased, its the amount of laziness behind it. Here is a better example of how the post should have been:

..."Hi, i have been trying to find other reef websites but have not being able to find any, ive searched all morning but for some reason nothing comes up on my searches. if anybody knows of any other reefkeeping websites i would really appreciate it. Thank you all.".....

Dude, seriously, there is an etiquette for everything, and even on websites like MAAST..The fact that by-law #8 isnt .."Members must behave and be polite at all times", at least try or pretend to be curious or not lazy.

all the time you spend bickering with people could be put to better use- why bother answering to people that like to get a rise out of you? do what you need to do to get what you need. just keep in mind that you always catch more flies with honey that you do with vinegar. ;)

GaryP

miked,

Please do not take anything said here personally. Some of the long time users here get a little frustrated when the same questions get asked over and over again instead of doing a search. I know I do as well occasionally. I can think of a few questions I have answered at least 50 times. Your's was a simple question, but sometimes I get asked something that may take 30 min. to answer completely. Do that 50 or so times and you can see how frustrating it can get. Your questions was probably just the spill over of some of that frustration and may not have been directed totally at you.

::pete::
Thu, 8th Dec 2005, 09:54 AM
Also some people tend to answer short and sweet ...
some what may seem to be not so polite ...
and some long winded, but most if notall the answers are to help!

Mike

If you don't have time then you are probably in the wrong hobby. You need to understand that it is a must that you do research on your own.

It's sort of like college, you cannot and will not pass a class if you listen to lectures alone. You need to do a bit of research (i.e. read your text) outside of class.

We all want to see you succeed, but if YOU are not willing to help yourself first, then why should WE be willing to help you?

The attitude of the question will be reflected in the answer!

This is all funny.

Personally I'm tire of seeing the following (a-word, s-word, c-word, f-word, etc.) put in all these threads, just because you are getting around a word screening editor doesn't change the intent.

This is still considered a family site and to me this is no less offensive than spelling the word out. The meaning and intent is still there, and most any kid that is on the site I'm sure knows what it means and if not I can just imagine them turning around and asking his mom "hey mom, what does "f-word" mean".

Let's please clean it up a bit and keep that stuff to the PM's if absolutely needed, and other terms in the english language can't be found to convey your feelings.

Let the flaming begin.

Well as everyone else has jumped on this thread why shouldn't I?! lol

I have to agree with Cliff on the cursing. Even with the site editing them out to a-word, f-word, etc., it's rather annoying and is a turn-off when browsing through threads. I quit reading through most threads for awhile because of it. Most of us are adults and received an education of some sort so we should be able to carry on a conversation without those words. Lately it's like reading a script from South Park! :wacko

Just my 2 cents. :shades

Didn't intend to hurt your feelings or anything. The point is that this is considered a family site and we have younger folks on here from time to time. Using curse words to get your point across has nothing to do with education, just common courtesy to others around you and those that may be viewing this site.

Unfortunately that is not something that is taught in our schools any longer, and in my opinion we shouldn't be relying on the schools for that lesson anyways.

hobogato
Thu, 8th Dec 2005, 07:58 PM

cbianco

...common courtesy...

Cliff, this bit of your post really sums it up!

We need to excercise a larger vocabulary when speaking with other people that we do not know. There would be no filters on these forums if we wanted to hear and see curse words.
