Saturday was heat wrenching... for weeks my wife has come down to the garage and watched me put the finishing touches on my stand, she's seen the tank... she always had nothing but the nicest things to say... then Saturday Bucky Katt (brian) and i moved the tank from the garage into the living room.

those cold eyes every married man fears flashed, Brian ran (wisely) and the wife and I had 'one of those talks'.

Conclusion of the Wife (which I can't really disagree with) is the tank is a hell of a lot bigger in the living room than it was in the garge, we are talking, overpowering bigger.

So, what is a boy to do? sell it? I didn't want to, I have worked so hard on it, re-arrange the furniture? mm.. not much option of doing that either... what can I do?

COMPROMISE!!!!!! The marrieds man favorite words, (best we can get typically.)

The new plan:

First, the half built entertainment center - will recycle as much as I can, but it's pretty much fire wood. :(

Second: The computer room will be no more very shortly.
Step 1: Re-build my computer cause it's unstable
Step 2: Move all my wifes data onto my computer, sell or donate hers.
Step 3: Remove her desk, and take it out to the ranch for storage, and throw away TONS of crap in that room. when were done, the only thing in there will be our computer, and the 110 gallon tank I am currently using as a temporary tank.

Step 4: Paint the room. she has allready chosen a color called "Toasted Sesamee" that will be 'tea stained'. that is nice.

Step 5: (probably actually step 4) move the 110 gallon tank so it's in front of the window. Move the new 120 gallon cube into the center of the wall where the 115 was.

Step 6: Finish Canopy

Step 7: Build wall to wall floor to cieling bookshelves and cabinets. I even have permission to put in secondary tanks plumbed into this one, which means tanks for a fu man chu and a pygmy frogfish eventually!

It's gonna be awesome, I now have a study/fishroom and I am more excited than ever!

I am taking a break from carpentry this weekend and Brian and I will be building aragocrete rocks to use as base rocks in my tank and his.

Soon as some more progress is made (after this minor setback) I will get you more pictures! Oh, and the SUMP is done!

So mankind is made of two seperate words? Why mank and ind? Couldnt it be man and kind, meaning the type of mammals that look like homosapiens. I get the meaning of hte quote, I just dont get why he would disect the word like that. I think he did it on purpose to say that we look at things different therefore its hard to reach a meaning when there is so many opinions. SOrry to highjack, just wondering.

Helpful things to remember when you go to the fish store: Throw the receipt away, don't take it home! Remember nothing to do with saltwater is refundable. Rotate use debit card one week and credit the next. Explain that when you frag it you can get your money back. Sure glad my wife doesn't read MAAST!!!!!

how can I live with a smart beautiful woman who means far more to me than my tank? i think that is an easy question to answer.

i hear that man... but you gotta have limits. my chick has weird hobbies also, and i dont complain about em one bit.

in fact, i like one of her weird hobbies, but not all of them.

yes, she means more to me than my tank. but, its *my* tank and *my* hobby. i dont try and change her hobbies when i participate in them.

which is why im wondering how your wifey could be upset when she has little to no interaction w/ your hobby, if thats the case.

no offence is ment by any of this, i just see that as a form of control, and that irks me...

My wife wants me to sell my reef tank. I love my hobby but she doesn't share enthusiasm. Whenver I buy something new I get the dagger eyes. I catch her looking at the tank and I say "see, you like it" but then she looks at me with the dagger eyes again. Now I'm going to upgrade from a 29gal to 55gal...more dagger eyes to come.

Just return the favor when she buys something.

Thats easy, they are effected because it goes in 'their house'!
At least that is what they will say

well, I certainly don't think going from a corner of the living room to getting an entire fish room /stufy constitutes crossing 'the limit'. :)

she loves my fish and my hobby, she just doesn't like that it dominates a good portion of my life. I can understand that, and once the tank is finished and running, I think she will love it even more.

That's how I did it. Now when we go to the fish store I have to tell her "you don't have the lights for that" or "that will fight with....." or "how many fish are you going to try to fit in that tank?"
But sometimes I get lucky and she has to have it so it goes in "my" tank :P

Just tell your wife there are two things you are obssesed with and you are willing to give one of them up for her because you love her soooo much. Then let her pick which one you should give up.

Aquariums & Strippers

My girlfriend is pretty cool about my hobbies, she doesn't mind my 380 gallon aquarium, heck she even went with me to Colorado to pick up the 720 and she didn't mind paintball until she found out that I've spent over $4,000 dollars in paintball guns and equipment then she did get a little upset, but I can't blame her as much as I hate to admit it she does have a point.

Mine complained when I bought her a 135, so I bought her a 100, and then sold both and bought her a 200 and then a 75 for my office, and then a 29, and then a 155. I have no idea why she gets mad at me. I guess she is not going to be happy until she gets me to buy her a new 240? She did tell me when I die she will save money on a casket, because she is going to bury me in my 200.

Ha!

Well think of it this way, which is easier to drag to the curb? About a ton of water? or your wife?
