Hey all

I finally broke down! I made a pickling lime slurry to kill the aiptasia in my tank. I had a lot to think about after I posted on the Joe's Juice. After reading the facts and opinions posted, I decided that I might as well try what I already have.

I know what your saying "a 24 gallon tank you must be crazy!" Well I did have a white out so I guess I'll have to build up my calcium level again. I did do a 3 gallon water change to try to dillute some of the pickling lime crud.

I have never used pickling lime to kill aiptasia. This stuff works like a charm. The anemones just melt away. If it wasn't for the side effects this would be a perfect method.

I just though I would share my success story. Comments (flames) on using this method in my tank are expected, lol.

LOL. I am going to have to try that on my cousin's 46g bowfront. It started off with a couple last week, now they are all over the place. I lent him a powerhead last week and it had two aptasias growing on it already. WHere did you get the syringe?

I used the plastic tipped syringe that I recieved with one of my test kits. It worked like magic, deadly killing magic that is, lol.

If you use this method remember, a little bit goes a long way! It is kinda interesting to watch the anemones "melt" away. If you move slow enough then they do not even retract. You can just drizzle the slurry over the top of the anemone and watch the magic happen, lol.

COol man, I will try that. You are allowed to change or hijack your own thread. It is your thread. BTW, by slurry do you mean something like a paste?

Slurry is like a paste. Not so thick but not so thin. Make sure that you are able to easily squeeze it out of the syringe but you do not want it to drip out of the syringe.

Keep in mind that this stuff is potent and WILL change your water chemistry. A water change will probably help to remedy this.

Just becarfull on the PH I went on a killing spree once and it ended up making my clown jump out of the tank this is because it burns there gills and so they jump out.

your battle may not be over yet. sometimes pieces of the aptasias that you kill will grow into tiny new anemones

Jose

There are two brands of pickling lime; Ball's and Mrs. Wages. Ball's is no longer making pickling. Many times you can find some old cans of Ball's on the shelves of stores in the Hill Country area. Mrs. Wages is not available locally. However, you can purchase Mrs. Wages over the internet. Do a search in yahoo for "Mrs Wages Pickling Lime" you will find it easily.

Don't remind me, lol! Now I have to send you some if they grow back. :lol

I don't have any fish in my tank. I'm not a fish person at this point in time. I do have corals. I did the water change right after (see above) I did the water change in hopes of combating some of the unwanted stress on the tank.
