I just noticed that my recently added algae blenny was a little less active then normal. Upon closer inspection he appears to be covered in a white film and respiring quickly/heavily. Anything I can do or take him for a goner? :( Tank parameters are within spec and tankmates (Yellow Tang and Russells Lion) are doing well. Here is a picture of him.

looks like his tail is a lot shorter than normal. maybe someone is picking on him? the white film - ???? i notice that his eyes look pretty cloudy, which can mean bacterial infection, maybe from injury. sorry i couldn't be more help.

His tail was that stubby when I picked him up. I thought it was strange too, but ended up figuring it added to his character. Thanks for trying though. :)

It looks like to me that his tail was completely bit off at one time and is just now growing back. This makes it look like it is shorter because it is growing back in proportion. I don't know if the eyes are that much of a problem because the fish narually has iredescent eyes. I have noticed that the key to keeping these is providing them with plenty of food. I have had one for about two years. Mine tends to hide a lot so hopefully yours will find a safe hiding place in your tank and recover. I guess you just have to wait and see but I think he has a fair chance. Also mine has learned to eat the seaweed that I feed my tang...it is definately entertaining to watch.

ours is nick named "puppy" because he follows you around the tank begging for food. he does have several particular places he like to hide also, so maybe like michelle said, find a piece of liverock that has a nice hole and make sure it is accessable and feed him well. mine chases the tangs ( who are 3 times his size ) away from the nori clip when he wants it.

He unfortunately died a couple hours after. Yesterday I found my Lion sick with the same thing. Gave him a FW bath and that seemed to help but he didn't make it. My lion was more then a fish to me. RIP Hansel. :(
