a "red" starfish which I purchased on monday has dropped two fo its legs and is a third one is now falling off,,,it is hanging by strands of white tissue...the starfish appears alive, the main body and two arms are still clinging sturdily to a rock...the legs on the bottom of the tank felt firm when I poked them...

the ends of the arms at the bottom of the tank look necrotic,,they are fuzzy and white....

will these regenerate? Should I take out the two dropped arms? should I cut off the one that is falling off in hopes of saving the starfish?

Well if it is health then yes they should regenerate but some thing sounds bad not sure though. I personally would remove the star to a QT tank and see what happens from there. Oh and yes remove the arms that have fllen off.

IME...once this starts happening with a starfish it is probably too late. Starfish have a dismal survival rate. Take out the legs that have fallen off.
