My crocea clam seems to have these white spots on its mantle. When I bought it I thought it was sand or something but when I tried to blow it off surely it wasnt sand. Seems like they've gotten a little bigger since ive added the clam. My tank is lit by 2x250w mhs my levels are good and my squamosa is doing fine. Dont think anything is picking on it can anyone help me out?

Kind of hard to tell by the pic...
Does it look as if the clam's flesh has bleached in these spots, or is it a raised lump (IOW, could it possibly be a parasite?)? Do you dose anything like kalk? Sometimes if kalk isn't mixed properly, larger pieces of the powder can drop onto your corals and stationary inhabitants and cause them to bleach. ?? Sorry I can't help more...maybe someone that raises clams can chime in here?
Beautiful clam BTW ;)

I believe what youre seeing is the clams "light receptors" They appear as tiny zit like nodules on the mantle.

Sorry for late response but I purchased the clam like this. I do see those light receptors but those are the same color as the rest of the mantle. They dont seem to be growing anymore but havent gotten better either. Ill just wait and see what happens. Looks like my clam has pm as well...

Ill have to do that. Looks like I will be downgrading my lights due to high electric bills. Ill have to downgrade to 2x150w HQIs. Will my clams do okay?

How deep is the clam from the top of the tank?

I'd check with someone a little more knowledgeable on electric costs of running MH's but I doubt you'll save more money on your electric bill than what it'll cost to change out lights (Maybe over a year or so). That is unless you can find an even trade from somebody.

Yea i know. But this isnt my house but my bros so hes says lights need to be downgraded. Unless I can find an alternate way of conserving energy...

Running them on icecaps. Was thinking maybe I can run like vhos most the day and run the mhs 3-5 hrs instead of 9-10. Would that be ok?

Go with a complete T5 setup.....talk to Polkster, he is the lighting expert around here.

He is doing amazing things with just T5 setups that saves money and is equal to MH.

Don-in-sa is running a full T5 setup too and his system is wicked!
