ok guy/gals iam setting up my 20 gallon. it is being drilled with a 3inch hole. i will be using a sump/fuge. my question is what size water pump will i need to use to return my water to the tank???

No idea...IMO..Even the Mag Drive mini is too big (65 gph) for your 20 gal. tank.

I run a mag 3 on my 20L. The limiting factor is the rate of flow that your overflow can handle. Remember it must be screened off in some way to keep livestock out. I have the pump, from the sump, restricted to slow the flow. Place a valve somewhere in the return line.
I have seen some flames on this site aimed at those of us putting sumps and fuges on small tanks. I say go for it. My 20 is my favorate setup.

Remember that a small pump like a Mag 2 is going to have a pretty good amount of head pressure loss, so that you may only get 100-150 gph from it. If you split that between two flows you're down to 50-75 gph per side. I have a feeling something like that would be fine for that size tank. That's less flow than you would get from a Maxijet.
