Ok, Hobogoto heloped me build a sump for the tank at school (really he cut it ,and glued it) :lol I supervised and watched. Now I need to know what type of cheap light to put over it to make things grow. I have been in HD looking for a grow bulb but it got too confusing. :unsure Ace suggested a 15 pc in a regular light socket. I know at one time there was a link to a cheap grow bulb that worked real good. Can't remember where it was though. Soooo any help, thoughts or information that I can use would be super.

Thanks

Sumps dont need a light for anything to grow, fuges do. Go with a Gro® lightbulb from HD and a cheap light fixture ($5.99 i think) over it if you want, but if its only a sump it wont do any good, wont hurt either.

Just a simple light fixture (metal) with a grow bulb (50w I believe).

Reef69 is correct. You first need to decide whether or not you want a sump or a refugium. To elaborate a bit:

A sump is basically a large filture. Normally a sump uses mechanical and possibly chemical fitration to absorb nutrients in the tank. There is not normally anything in a sump that requires lighting.

A refugium (sp?) is natural filter. Normally a refugium uses a living organism that absorbs/converts nutrients in the tank. Things such as macro algae, zenia, etc... are used. These items need light to live and grow.

These are the basic differences between a sump and a refugium.

Hope this helps a bit! :)

it is a sump and a fuge in one, one section for live rock rubble and another for macro, sand and mangroves.

Yep, thats the light..all fixtures are different (different sizes). I have the small one, it can have a bulb up to 60w, thats what i have.

Ive got one you can have Darth. I used to run it over my sump/mangrove habitat. Make sure too, that you run it on the opposite photo period as your main tank. Dont know all the science behind it but it is basically b/c all the algaes in the main tank eat nutrients during the day and when the lights go off they stop. So if you run a fuge at night their wont be a swing in nutrients. Maybe someone can be more specific.
