Has any one built one? are there any draw back with it being square versus round?

Drawback is the possibility of dead spots within the reaction chamber, areas where water will stagnate instead of swirl/mix. The round design helps create a vortex with the ideal being a slower, less turbulent swirl of the water column to allow better contact time of the water and air bubbles. Hopefully some of the skimmer builders of the group will also chime in with their input.

H20ENG over at RC has built several square skimmers.
