I have gotten lazy about checking my salinity so I tested it today and it came out to 1.021. I thought it was running at 1.023.

I am in the middle of a water change and the new water (only 5 gallons) is 1.026.

I was wanting to raise my salinity to 1.025 but now I am hesistant to place the water in there.

Mathematically...if I replace the water with 10% water at 1.026 it should raise the salinity only to 1.0215.

Is that going to be slow enough?

how big of a system are we talking about?
Is it fish only or reef?

I've raised mine from 1.019 to 1.024 over 1.5 days. My tank had already been running at 1.024 but I forgot to turn the ro/di off so it dropped pretty fast.

If it is a reef tanks, I would bring it back up over 24-48 hours. If a FO, you don't need to rush at all! Your first water change is fine. You can top-off with VERY high salinity water, just add it VERY slowly over a day or two, and measure salinity after each addition.

Also, how sure are you about your salinity testing? If you are using anything but a refractometer (that you calibrated lately) or a floating bulb hydrometer, I would check it first!

Why would your salinity have dropped? Think about it ... where did the extra salt go? CHECK YOUR SALINITY AGAINST A SECOND SOURCE!

I have twice driven my Salinity over 1.028, once due to a faulty swing arm hydrometer, and again due to a faulty PinPoint salinity meter.

The tank is 55 gallon and at this point it is fowlr. Yeah, I am using the swing arm. I definitely need to get a refractometer.
