Mark talked me into some "Piscine Engergetics" brand Freshwater Mysis Shrimp. Larger, fater, and apparenty VERY tasty! I have fed them a couple of times, and now my fish go NUTS when I walk up to the glass to feed.

Heck, even my CBBs are eating them ... and get this, my pod raised green mandarin that has never eaten anything that wasn't crawling, gobbles 'em up like candy :)

Definately worth trying if you haven't already! They are a little "oily", so rinse a little in a fine net after thawing.

It's GREAT stuff! I'm not always home in time to feed my fish and my two butterflies (CBB and a Longnose) would drop weight pretty fast if I didn't feed them alot. Now they stay nice and fat even if I miss a day or two.

That "oily" stuff is HUFA, no need for selcon or zoecon with PE mysis.

Oh, my spotted mandarin chases it down also (well trys to at least). Pretty funny to watch.

Whats the difference between "Piscine Engergetics" brand Freshwater Mysis Shrimp and the regular frozen Mysis I buy? My CBB loves the frozen kind I'm buying now. If I hand feed with the cube in the tank, it picks off the shrimp before they melt off!!!

Actually, I got them when I went up on Saturday. He fed the CBBs these so I could see them eating.

I'm sure they won't mind if you come back to get some ;)

You can check out the differences at www.mysis.com

The Biggest difference IMO is that it is harvested alive and immediately flash frozen. So you are getting a much fresher product. When you thaw PE mysis they are complete whole shrimp whereas with some other brands you get broken or mushy shrimp when you thaw it.

No it's not a secret. It's just that Mark and I are both former computer dorks used to working in little cubicles, so our "sales" skills are limited :D .

If anybody in the Northwest Side of Town is going to pick some up at CB pets, I would appreciate it if they could pick up a package of these Piscine Engergetics" brand Freshwater Mysis Shrimp to try them out. Of course I would pay you when I pick them up from you :) .

Thanks.

LOL - no secret! Actually, I've been touting this brand of mysis for at LEAST a year. Anytime anyone says they've been feeding only brine (or something "non-nutricious" like brine) I always recommend the PE mysis! Our fish love it, protein percentage is very high, and the shrimp are plump and fresh. I've occasionally had to buy the "other" brand for smaller/baby fish though, as the P.E. can be a bit overwhelming for tiny mouths. :)
