if i remember correctly at finaddict they charge $20/hole
dont quote me though :)

and why do i need to get it drilled. i have some extra money that i would like to spend on my tank filteration system and i dont know which way togo.

Well.....you can drill it for multiple reasons.
1) If you want to run a closed loop system
2) If you want to add an overflow
3) You want your returns in the aquarium instead of hanging on the side
You don't have to have it drilled for either, but it is easier to manage and looks nicer (IMO)
You can get a HOB overflow box that will allow the water to be surface skimmed and drain into a sump/fuge and you can always run a closed loop system or your returns with just a hang on type. It will all work the same.
Down fall to HOB overflow......they might loose syphon and then your return pump will empty your sump/fuge into your main tank.
