If you just dont want a sump then get a good HOB skimmer. Im using a cpr HOB because i choose to give more room in my sump for macro. I would prefer remora skimmer though.

Depends on budget......if you can afford it; go with a sump/fuge, get the hOB overflow or drill it, and put the skimmer either hob or in the sump/fuge.......if you can't afford it, then get a GOOD hob skimmer.

Depends on if you want to hide all of the equipment (one of the nice things about having a sump) for asthetics. If you don't care what it looks like in or around the tank and money is an issue, then a HOB would probably be your best option. If you can afford it, go with the sump. Makes doing water changes and adding additives to your tank a lot easier and less stressful on the tank's inhabitants.

I've had both the CPR backpack and the sump/fuge. I would say if you can fit it and afford it, go with the sump/fuge. It gives you more water volume, can hide the equipment, and gives you more options in the future.....
