I have a coral that was doing fine. But all of a sudden the polyps closed and haven't returned. It has been 2 days and the polyps have not come back. It has a smaller plate growing behind it and they are doing great. The coral also has web like substance on it. Can any one help? What could be the problem? Please advise.
Thanks,
Robert
yesterday I did a 20 gallon water change and the tank parameters are
ph-8.3; ammonia-0; nitrate-0; nitrite-0; and calcium-480.

The web stuff usually means that some substance like sand has settled on the coral and the flesh there has died. This happens with there isnt enough flow on the coral to keep things off it.

I just got it last week and I think it is called a turbenia.
I think you are right, I just moved it to a high flow area, how do I repair the flesh?
Thanks,
Blanca

Well if you moved it and changed it conditions then its probably just stressed and released a slime coat. They like medium flow and light and placement is medium to low in the aquarium

Where did you have it when it was doing fine?

What you have is a Turbinaria reniformis (Yellow Scroll Coral). This is a small polyp stony coral. It is relatively hardy and grows to a large size. Medium light and medium current are required. It will grow fast if fed brine shrimp. Try to mnot handle it to much as this will stress it out. Give it a couple of days and the polyps will come back out. I keep mine in the top third of the tank where there is a lot of light and good water movement.
