Does anybody have a fish trap??
I heard in Austin that some of the stores rent these out. Its a box with suction cups and a trap door that you controll with a string. You put a piece of shrimp or something in the end and the fish will go in after it and you let go of the string and the fish is trapped.
I need to get this Huge damsil out of my 29g reef so if you have one of these or know were to rent one LMK.
Thanks

I've got one ... they don't work, at least not for my fish.
Check with ~Pete~, he has one that works - simple string with a hook on the end :roll

I have a wet/dry vac you can borrow. Suck it out and do a water change at the same time......

I never had luck with fish traps so went to walmart fishing section and bought the smallest hooks, cant remember the size but they are very little. I filed the barb off of the hook and went fishing in my tank. Caught and removed a couple of GSM's that had taken over the tank. They suffered no serious injuries and traded them back to lfs.

the only time I used the fish trap it worked GREAT for me! I tried everything to get that stupid fish out of there and finally rented the trap from Austin Aquariums, put a small chunk of shrimp in there and got him out.
I did it towards the evening though right before the lights were about to go off. Not sure if that changed anything and I had to leave the trap in there almost all day.
What I did was put a piece of shrimp in there and put the trap in the tank and let it sit for a good while. they go used to going in there and picking at the shrimp. Then I reloaded and waited until the fish I want out went in there and dropped the door. Took about an hour of standing htere but better than pulling things out!

Ditto here. Get super small fish hooks---ones from a flyfishing shop to tie flies are best and get barbless or crush the barbs down with pliers. Put a small split shot sinker on the line and a single mysis shrimp. I've done this LOTS and never had a fish die or even get sick.

Or you can start putting Iron fileings in the fish food and let the Mag float do the work for you! :lol

Sorry, missed your post ... it is about 9"x4"x4" - round tube with end pieces ... just like This One (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=UL1513)
GaryP borrowed it once, and I don't think it helped him either?
You are welcome to try it???

I also rented a fish trap from Austin Aquariums and it worked great. It was in a 30 Hex and I got my damsel in less than 5 minutes.
