Wondering what brand of carbon/charcoal most folks use?

For my Red Bug treatment I used Two Little Fishes. First time I ever used this brand, and it was a royal PITA - the amount of dust was horrible and I had to rinse it forever!

Typically I buy ESV GAC on-line and have been happy with it. Also buy the "Diamond" brand at LFS when I'm in a pinch.

So, what do you use, and what do you like/dislike?

Try Two Little Fishies Hydro Carbon2, Brian says the dust is not that bad. Kent is good, but pricey. Anything is better than two little fishies regular carbon...lol. Unless you like rinsing carbon for an hour...
(-Brian dictating to me...lol)

But seriously I'm tagging along to see what most people use and which performs the best....

Hiatt Activated Tri-Base Pelletized Carbon

Richard, where do you get this stuff - I only found it at http://www.memory-doctor.com/tribase.htm

Price actually looks reasonable, unless 5lbs comes in a quart container :unsure

LOL...yeah I get most of the stuff I use there. It's just a matter of convenience since I'm there 60 hours a week. ;)

I've got the 5lb bags and can order the bigger bags if you like it. I'll send you a pm tomorrow.

Whats the benifits of using that particular carbon over the other brands?

I have a bag of the Tripelletized that I got from Richard and have used it for a while...........
I just rinse it for a few minutes and chunk it in!!!
He recommended it then and I have liked ever since.

Oh sorry Lonestar, I didn't see your question til now. All of the carbons named do a good job of adsorbing organics and making water clear. My preference for this carbon is just that it works as well as any I've used and the pellet form is easy to rinse/use. It's not dense like some of the other pelletized carbon that I have tried.

Ok thanks Richard. I'm running carbon in a Two Little Fishies phosban reactor. To date I have only used Kent brand carbon but have just ran out of it (did a water change last week). I'm looking for a new brand to try. Possibly a little bit cheaper in a big quantity lol maybe wishful thinking :roll Lets just say if I found a 5lb bag at a certain pet store, how much would that run me(ballpark figure)? :innocent

Oh, I think it would hypothetically run about $34.99 at some hypothetical pet store before any hypothetical discounts for belonging to some hypothetical forum.
