Just thought I would share what I did to my IWAKI pump sense salt water is so harsh on things.....

When I bought it it was rusted pretty bad. I took a wire brush on a drill and got all the rust off and took it down to bare metal.

now here is the good idea....I bought at lowes the rust proof paint guaranteed not to let it rust. I sprayed two coats all over the metal (it was taken apart at the time) to prevent rusting.

You may want to do this too if your pump is rusted but works good or before it starts rusting. Paint was only like 5$ and to me was worth it to protect such an expensive piece of equipment that the tank depends on.

My other idea was to line the inside of my stand with pond lining and then put pond lining down under the stand to protect the carpet somewhat.

Just thought I would share incase someone is setting up a tank or such. 8)

Just a though....

Anyone else have any good usefull ideas like this to protect, make life easier, etc, etc.....??????

Great idea on the pond liner under the sump and stuff. I completely forgot to do that and of course had a chingon leak on to my hardwood floors.

I had trouble keeping the nori clip on the glass, because as we all know the suction cups wear out quick. So I crazy glued the suction cup to the inside of my mag-float. Works like a charm.

I painted it black and taped up the labels so they are still there identifying it as a IWAKI and model! LOL

Ive also used rhino liner to paint the underside of stands as well as fiberglass resin and mat. Both work great and are more durable than pond liner (fiberglass is cheaper way to go)...

There are all kinds of good resins and paints you could use in the stand as well as build it up a little like a trough so if there was a spill-leak-over fill you would get a little more protection.
