i would like to hear some opinions on the necessity of feeding a 3" derasa? i have a 5-6" derasa, and a 4-5" crocea, both are doing well and showing growth, having been in the tank for 7 months, and 3 months. i am considering buying a 3" derasa, and have read mixed opinions on target/bowl feeding. please share your experience.

44 views and only one response? i thought everyone had clams? i just want to hear ya'lls opinions, i know you all have one. i have already been doing research on WWM, and clamsdirect, but it's so hard to find a specific answer in a forum site. i think i have plenty of general info, i'm just wondering about feeding a 3"derasa, my others have been larger by the time i aquired them. thanks

A clam is a filter so it actually helps to clean your water and direct feeding isnt necessary. Now if its a little one @1-1/2" or less its suggested to spot feed it. I have not had luck with the little ones until this last time and I never touched it once it was in the tank!! I think it was a little bigger than an inch when I got it.

i've been reading some very mixed opinions on the whole bowl feeding tecnique, it makes sense to me that all of this handling would be very sressfull to the clam. also i had thought i had heard that at around 3" target feding is no longer necessarry, then again others say it's not necessary at any size! bassically, i'm looking at a 3" clam, but if i'm going to have to bowl feed it a few times a week, i don't think i'm interested.

Clams of any species do not need to be bowl fed or any method of feeding them after the size of 2-2.5". By then their mantle surface area is large enough to feed off the zoo. in their mantle.
