WOW :w00t that's cool.
But 2 things
1) Could the actual file be posted somewhere, so it will look better if printed so we could post it in the LFS,
2) This is just a suggestion and I'm sure this was dicussed but why not just round the fee up to $10 and $5 and maybe make some $$$ back.
Just my thoughts

::pete::

The flyer will be posted on the home page, but if you right click and save it should print up nicely. We thank you for distributing down in the Corpus area.

We discussed and tossed around allot of ideas on the fee, but you are welcome to round it off or up ;)

Man, I keep missing threads! Even though I'm on here all the time!

OK, HERE IS THE DEAL. Michael Paletta is an amazing person for our reef hobby to have.

THIS PRESENTATION WILL BE A HUGE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ANYONE THAT COMES. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE SPS ONLY TO LEARN A TON FROM HIS PROGRAM. Please don't see it this way!

Remember that SPS are seen as some of the most difficult and specialized corals to keep. Given this you system's parameters (both light, water, and nutrient export need to be the very best you can get them. This will benefit any saltwater system.

Mike is a super nice guy. He's not snobby etc. even though he's one of the world's top reef designers. He truly LOVES this hobby. When I found out his schedule I figured he would not want to look at tanks locally but part of one evening.................HE SAID NO WAY, I WANT TO SEE AS MANY LOCAL TANKS AS I CAN. I LOVE SEEING ALL THE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS AND HOW THEY ARE SET UP!

He knows a ton, is not snobby, is a great guy, and does tons of experiments in his own systems that we can ALL learn from.

I was put in contact (sort of) with Michael by an old friend of his in Idaho (same person who gave the Idaho Grape original source to Tyree). I saw about 10 minutes of one of Mike's presentations for a couple years back.....the DVD went bad after only 10 minutes of the 1.5 hour talk. I LEARNED SO MUCH IN JUST 10 MINUTES THAT I KNEW I HAD TO SOME DAY GET TO KNOW HIM AND SEE HIM PRESENT.....SOMEWHERE!

Now, as our club grows, we are lucky to be able to support things like this! You will learn things that won't be published in books for years!

Between the $25 per year to be a charter member for MAAST and support us AND the measly $5 (actually only $4.75) anyone interested in a saltwater tank is freaking nuts to miss this.

YOU WILL SAVE SEVERAL TIMES THIS JUST FROM USING WHAT YOU LEARN TO not KILL ANIMALS YOU TRY TO KEEP!

Todd

Well put Todd !

I know I will not miss this one as I like to take as much in as possible and then use what works best for my situation and my tank.

There is never (not just in reefs) anyone that knows it all and some that do are wrong from time to time. I beleive alot can be learned here and put to good use. So count me in!

Michael Paletta will also be available for Q&A as well as signing books for those interested.

See y'all there!

Sherri
Tue, 27th Sep 2005, 05:11 PM
For those that do have his books, I'm sure he won't mind signing them, so bring 'em. For those that don't have his books (me included!!), you'll have the opportunity to purchase there AND have him sign them. I'm really excited! I've been getting into SPS since March...so this really interests me.

Also, FYI, anyone wanting to prepay - can...that way it won't hold you up at the entrance gate. ;)

Ultimate Marine Aquarium

Wed, 5th Oct 2005, 02:16 AM
How much are th books??

GaryP
Wed, 5th Oct 2005, 12:49 PM
We haven't finalized pricing as of now. However, this is about what I was thinking about.

New Marine Aquarium - $20 for non-charter members, $16 for charter members

Ultimate Marine Aquarium - $40 for non-charter members, $36 for charter members

No shipping, no tax. The important theng to remember is that the proceeds go to MAAST and are going to help offset the costs of this event and will allow us to do more of these events in the future.

We really need some input from you if you want to do this. We need to make a move on it. So, get your friends to give us their input as well.

As far as payment goes, is it cash only or can we write a check. I don't normally carry cash on me but I can make an exception if necessary. I understand that Paletta will be giving a speech during this event but I thought I heard something about a tour of Seaworld's aquarium also. Could someone correct me on this?

Thanks

Hello Christopher...thanks for asking. Yes, you can pay cash or by check. The event itself IS Paletta...there is a VIP tour that will be given for a small number of people - it is basically for the benefit of Paletta himself. It's in the works right now.

If I can help you with anything else...pls let me know. Hope to see you there.

Folks, I don't know if ya'll are excited about this as I am, but this is going to be great. Please tell all your friends, even those that aren't into SW but have shown some interest. This would be a great event for them to get some idea about what the hobby is all about. Also, tell the folks that you run into at the LFS about the event. We should have fliers in most of the LFS by now. Make sure they are aware of it. We would appreciate the help of the LFS owners and staff in getting the word out. I know some of them may even be slosing so they can attend the event.

We're only a week away so let's make sure everyone knows about this event. A lot of work has gone into it and we really want to make it a huge success. For those of you wanting to get one of Mike's books signed, check with your local LFS. They should have them in stock or able to get them.

I'll hopefully be getting some Public Service Announcements on the air with a couple of the SA radio stations in the next few days. If anyone else has access to this kind of free advertising, please contact one f the BOD members.

Thanks everyone for their support.

Andrew...EVERYONE attending the event will meet at the front gate of SeaWorld. You have to pass thru their ticket gate (no charge) and park at the front gate entrance. Those attending the Tour must be at the front gate entrance gate no later than 5:45 as the tour begins at 6 till 6:45 in time for the event itself.

I will be speaking with SeaWorld sometime today and will inquire about cameras...both for tour & event. Will post when I get any info.

Hope that helps.

Perhaps this was covered another way, but I'm still quite opaque on who is allowed to attend the 'behind the scenes' tour. Am I wasting my time if I show up at 5:45 for the tour? I won't pitch a fit or pout if I'm not 'special' enough, but if I am I certainly don't want to miss it.

WOW :o

Great event!! Learned lots from Paletta and won a frag .. frag hell, that was a colony!

I may have to change the timetable on my new tank. I was expecting frags, not 12" colonies. I barely have room to even float them in my tank, but I managed.

For those of you that didn't make it, your loss is my gain. Seriously though, I couldn't be happier with the way MAAST's first "big" event turned out. Thanks to everyone that helped out and to everyone that made it to the talk tonight. Stay tuned for an announcement about another big event we have in the works for early next year.

I enjoyed the event immensly! Being a "newbie" I have much to learn. I feel it to be an honor to be "schooled" by Mike Paletta, lol. I wish I was able to win one of the MONSTER frags.

Did anyone get anything good at Fin-Addict. I went and left with sand and snails, exciting! :lol

CD (Wendy) and I had a great time.
Thanks to the BOD and everyone who made this happen.

Now that Wendy has been working for the past couple of months, We will be able to afford to replace some of the SPS we lost.
We had a few issues in the tank and just didn't quite know what the problem was. Now that we made this meeting, we feel we know exactly where the problem is- Thank You Mike Paletta for your knowledge.http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/happy/1074.gif

We were hoping to get one of the frags but knew that our tank wasn't making SPS happy at the moment and certainly didn't want to attempt it.
That should be resolved shortly and then we need to figure out who won the Sea World frags. :innocent

Pete?? or Todd?,

I just wanted to know when you were going to invite me to the SeaWorld event that i helped you set up with Mark Telzrow and Joe Keyon. I was sure you said that you would contact me but i never heard anything.

I was pretty disappointed that you wouldn't at least have let me know. I can assume when you heard about me through wolfreef you just used me for my reference. THANX!!!! I'LL REMEBER THAT!

Regretfully

Mr. Palletta gave a great presentation, I took some good notes. I also won a Frag, extra large as I might say! But, my frag was RTN at the base when I opened the bag at home. I had to nip it to stop the tissue loss. I now have three health frags, bright green acropora. Thanks!
Can't wait to do it all over again!!

The meet was great. I have also finally gotten around to posting pictures on my gallery. Two of them are of the frags I won from SeaWorld. The Acropora austera and Stylophora pistillata are the two I won. Sweet!

Argh! I though it was this weekend! I can't believe I missed this meeting. I was really looking forward to coming out, meeting everyone, and getting some input on setting up my new tank. I've been talking to my girlfriend about it for weeks :(

Oh well, I guess it's time for some forum posts :P Hope to catch everyone at the next meeting.
