First try...I have not even opened the book yet to see how to do a macro. I am going to buy a special lense for that.

Cool!

So, give us the lowdown on the new camera. Make, model, etc. :pics

Canon Digital Rebel XT

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&mode lid=11154

Right now I only have the lense that came with it but I am going to order a few more nice ones. The problem with that is just one lense that I want costs twice what the camera cost!

I bought one of these a few months ago and it has been wonderful. It has been to Iraq and even survived sandstorms (although now the flash is a little dicey about popping up). The battery lasts easily for hundreds of pictures. It is a great camera for the price, and rivals many that are twice the cost.

However, even with a macro lens I can't get aquarium pictures as good as yours. What's your secret?

no clue. Like I said that was the first shot. I hope I can keep it up.

Do you turn off your lights or do any other prep?

Also, you have good source material to shoot.

Here is a picture I took with mine. It doesn't seem quite as clear.

I think I am going to get these two lenses:

and

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f-2.8-L-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

or the much cheaper:

strange. The MH lights were off and the actinic VHOs were on, and the pic was taken with a flash that completely over powered the VHOs.

This is really sized down and is not that clear once it is sized down but still a cool pic. Good AM breakfast shot.

If those are your first pictures it looks like it is time for you to quit your job and go professional! Very nice pics!

Nice shots Steve.
Alex I think you were actully to close. I have a Nikon D70 with the macro lens and was surprised how far away I had to be to get a good clear macro shot. Good think about digital just keep shooting, and shootin, and shootin. Not paying for film ^_^

Are you using the macro mode on the camera or what mode. I have the same camer, just not the new XT model and am just starting to play with macros. Another great thing I'd recommend is a good external flash for the camera, the pop up flas I've found to be hit and miss.

The lenses will make the biggest difference in the performance of this camera or any SLR.

It was in the middle of the night Pete!

It does suck that I really do not have any free time right now to play with it.

brewercm, so far the only thing I did was switch it to macro mode. There are a million settings on this camera but I have not even begun to play with them yet.
