is it possible to run my 29g on just an emp 400 w/ 10-15% water changes weekly? the emp 400 is SO much quieter than my penguin that i wanna keep it on instead of the penguin...

you should be fine, but I would remove the biowheels because the are nitrate factories.

Same here. Although preffered, you dont need a skimmer for that size of a setup as long as you keep up with water changes weekly.

I know of a friend who used the bigger aquaclear filter and turned it into a small fuge for his nano. It has worked very well. The only thing he did was remove all of contents and replaced it with macro. He just put a small refugium light and VOILA.

There was an article in the August 2005 edition of "Freshwater and Marine Aquarium" that shows step by step how to do the conversion. Small fuge but they say it works great...............Emilio

I will PM his number but I think its real easy. Just like I mentioned before, all he did was remove all the contents and he put a little sand bed with macro algae and added a small refurium light.
