To anyone who purchased anything from my personal tank and got flatworms:
I am terribly sorry that you guys think I would do something like this on purpose. That truly hurts me. I might have made a few people mad, but I am not the type of person who would try to damage something someone has worked so hard on. It appears that most people think I would do something like this on purpose, and to them I want to say that I am so sorry that you think that I am that type of person.
Anyone who got flatworms from me is welcome to free meds, I only have 3 boxes so you might have to share. Also, you are more than welcome to a refund of whatever you bought, and I will be glad to help you treat your system. Or, I will be glad to order you a free sixline wrasse (they eat flatowrms)
Also, I never once saw a flatworm in my main tank. I saw a few brown ones in my small fuge, but thats it. I never saw them anywhere else. I just checked again, but cant find any.

Alex, thank you for the gesture it is the right thing to do. If I remember correctly, Brian offered you our treatment b/c you had tried to order some for the store but they were backordered.

Hmm, ALEX you big &$*&^*&^#@(*. :) :)
I know absolutely that you would never give someone worms on purpose. Always good to tell of anything bad you've seen anywhere in your system before someone buys though. Even if it was a while back and may deter someone from purchasing.
The way I look at it, anyone how knows much at all about reefing, knows there are LOTS of parasites out there. It is the tank owner's fault any time they get some pest they didn't want. It's either lack of knowledge, or, lack of precautions (dips, quaranteens, etc).
The first time I got flat worms it was indirectly from a person very prominent here on MAAST. I got them from the LFS that he gave them to. Not on purpose. Stuff happens.
I got, and many others, have gotten red bugs from several different LFS's. Did we get mad? NO. We quitely notified and help those people learn how to get rid of them and then treated our tanks. It's my fault for not treating the one time I had fW and the TWO times I've had Red Bugs.
Now on to my selfish thoughts! I did dip your stuff! But, I'll have to see if the dip I used nukes FWs! :)
FWIW, six line wrasses are VERY helpful. They eat all kinds of little things you don't want around. I have two in my system and they don't bother each other.

hey, there you go,someone with sense and good advice.i second your opinion that someone who gets these parasites in their tank gets them from their own mistakes.even if they are there on the item to begin with, you should have seen and dealt with them before the item was placed in your tank.

Agree. "I" didn't say you should have seen it.
Also, as you describe it, now it sounds a little more fishy. In that it would have been good to mention that there were flat worms at one time and the system was not treated for them. Just should have been mentioned.
I still don't think it was "on purpose".

Hitchhikers....from the ocean...noooooo! We all have critters and things we don't want in our tanks. I have seen some other MAAST people with flatworms in their tanks too. No biggie, get rid of them and move on.

Thanks for the responses Alex. I do not think he would have kept the info 'quite' if it was not a big problem. Why would he want to burn bridges and customers to make a few bucks?? It would make no sense to; not when you own a store that also caters to the same people that you serviced with your personal goods. Its just not a good personal or business move. Alex has done the RIGHT thing in coming back and stating his case, offering apology's, discontinuing selling the sand and cheato, and by offering free meds to help those that might be effected.
Its a good thing we are not in the 1700s and accussing him as a witch! So please no jumping to crazy and stupid accusations....

man,if i was alex i would'nt give any of you free nothing.it is not his fault if you put something in your tank without qt'ing it or inspecting it for parasites.as far as them being so small you cant see em,thats bullcrap.alex you are more of a man than i am i guess.or maybe it does make sense you apologizing and offering free stuff seeing as how you own a biz and probably would like these folks to come back.i doubt if there was any flatties on there to begin with.......... :blink
