..Well..after working on the new tank most of the day, i ended by regulating the salinity to 1.020..water was clear-er..skimmer wasnt pulling out stuff out anymore..everything was going good..I decided to turn off the RO unit..my 45 gal. trashcan was full..I was excited because in the morning i was gonna do a big waterchange..my water was one step closer to being good again...As i laid down, i couldnt sleep..i knew something was going to happen..i felt anxious..when suddently..a loud noise got me up...ran downstairs to find 45 gallons of water on my living room's floor..yeah, carpet..all over my ballasts, light strips, chords, fans..everything i had on the floor..if ive had a gun at reach i would have shot myself....seriously. But, i didnt have a gun, i had a vaccum cleaner..so deicded to start vaccuming all the water...after 40 trips to the sink to empty the little 2 gallon container..the carpet was "moist" enough to seem like i washed the carpets..before heading to bed i want to thank God for not letting me add salt to the RO container..insted, it was just good old RO water..Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day..it could have been worse, the tank could have cracked..and it wouldnt have been 45 gallons, but over 125..Thanks you God...anyways...good night ... :unsure

Durn, Diego! This HAS been a rough week! Sorry to hear the trashcan burst :( May I make a suggestion? Go get yourself one of those sturdy food grade barrels (thick plastic) to hold your RO/DI water...we have two 55G barrels like that, and they are wonderful. It's always scary to me when someone says they keep their water in a trash barrel - they may seem strong, but were not meant to hold water! Again - sorry it happened, but as you said - at LEAST it wasn't SW >_< :(

Thanks Wendy..Yeah, im gonna buy one of those barrels...the thing that upsets me its hat it took a while for the trashcan to fill up ith water..its just a set back..

Be sure to let everything dry out real well before plugging anything in, and you should be ok! If you want to be sure, go to a electronics supply house and get some tuner cleaner. Leave the unit disconnected, open up and spray out with the tuner cleaner. It will disipate any water in the unit. Close the unit back up, let the tuner cleaner dry, and you should then be good to go. You should go ahead and get the tuner cleaner, it will also help to stop any further corrision, should any have already started.

i'm just curious what kind of trash can did you have?? i have a brute holding my water for my osmolator. its been holding for 2 weeks now but after hearing this i'm curious if you had the same kind or was it just a regular ol trash can. i know the brute's have thicker walls and seem pretty sturdy.

How does an extremely heavy trash can full of water fall on it's side? did it buckle?

Sorry to hear about the spill. they are never fun. I've had to pull up my share of carpet as well. sucks.

Well, the trash can has wheels on it, so it leaned over to the wheel's side and fell..it was stupid of me not to lean it against the couch like i had done before..
