well...it looks like the September meeting will have to be a different place then what was originally planned so I will need help from a fellow maastard in finding a new September meeting site. This can be any Saturday or Sunday in the second half of September. We have been trying to rotate between Austin and SA but since there was not a August meeting and the next one will be in between then it can be either.
Anyone who has a good sized house and an understanding significant other please PM me ASAP so I can put the word out...I am sorry for the short notice on this....thanks!
Also we have October and November booked...so if you cant host the meeting in Sept and still want to another time please give me a PM.

Don,
How about an equipment/frag swap meet in New Braunfels? I could make arrangements to have a pavilian at Landa Park. The only problem...I work every other weekend. So, I work this weekend, I would be off every other weekend--starting next weekend. Let me know what you think, and I will check with Comal County.

That would be a blast, we had a great time we did it there last time. We can make it a BBQ again if everybody would like to bring a little something. Maybe just hotdogs and hamburgers or something easy and quick.

Sounds like a GREAT idea, Roy! :D
We've got some leftover plumbing parts (etc. etc.) from setting up the 210G and even from the 75G that we need to get rid of...most of which we'll just give away for free. Have a picnic (bring a dish)...reef talk...fun in the sun!
So come on, MAASTard people - what do you think? Yes? No? Other ideas? :w00t

We tried that last year and we didn't get a very good turn out. It might be better this year since the club is bigger and more active. The pavilions at Landa book up fast so we need to get moving on it pretty soon if that is what we are going to do.

Cool!!
Now what tme of day? I was thinking evening would be better, because it would be a little cooler than during the day?
Let me know what you all think!
I will check with the park and see what I can do.

Evenings are always a problem for meetings. People always have conflicting activities on weekend evenings.

We tried Landa Park last year with a lot of people saying they would attend....then prob less than 10 did. We had BBQ out the #@*%!}$*^ left over. Right Gary?? Might be different this time...dunno.

Yea, it seems like a certain someone took home 3 briskets and most of a turkey that were supposed to be used at a future meeting and were never to be seen again.

Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 09:27 AM
Have a small pia fee ... that includes raffle tickets. If they dont come they dont get their tickets or refund. This will keep the head count true

:innocent I wonder who... :ph34r Prob shriveled up in the freezer & disintegrated...huh, Gary???

Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 09:54 AM
Yea, as I recall this person wouldn't let her family eat beef. That was the reason why I "had to" provide the turkey. I think I heard later that it got thrown away because it was freezer burned.

Ok! I just tried to call the N.B. Parks Dept. and they are closed, even though their web site says that they are open on Saturdays thru Aug. I will call on Monday.
I was thinking of the weekend of the 17?

Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 10:32 AM
Although a good idea why not get some sort of head count before wasting your time. If only 10 people are going to show ...
SBreef
Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 10:39 AM
Well Then, Lets get a head count going. Post here if you would like to have a meeting at Landa Park, and total number attending.

I do not know yet! As for a date, I will check with the parks dept. on Monday. But I would like for the weekend of the 17th.

I added the Sat/Sun hoping that when members reply they will let us know which day is more favorable. ;) It also depends on Landa Park being available.

Does it matter to anyone if its at Blanco State Park in Blanco?

Either would be convenient to both the SA and Austin crowds.

Blanco State Park, does not have near the amount of traffic as Landa does. Play area for kids, swimming, fishing and etc. Restrooms close by!

Me too...looks like a nice place. :D
Looked over the site, and didn't see where they mentioned whether or not they had outdoor grills availb. though (if we wanted to BBQ)...anybody know if they do?

Yes, they do. And I could bring a couple of my small grilles.

Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 05:33 PM
That was the reason I was saying just hotdogs and hamburgers. Everyone could basically bring what they want for themselves and nobody (including the club) gets stuck having all this food for 50 and only 10 show up. Either place and either day works for me.
::pete::
Sat, 27th Aug 2005, 05:40 PM
Thats not only a good way, but you can also just keep the coals hot and eat when ready.

Yeah, I just had a social at my house this past Saturday for all MAAST memebers and only two family showed up. I had a head count of over 20 people including children. Ended up with a bunch of brisket left over. Hopefully this meet will be better attended.

Tue, 30th Aug 2005, 04:19 PM
Come on guys and gals ... can we get an idea of how many are interested?
This will be at Blanco State Park and we will do it on a Sunday as most meetings are on a Sunday. Probably the last week end to give us time.
This is for the September meeting and is only a few weeks away. So we need an idea of who will be attending so we can book a pavillon in time ... or not?
Thanks

I'l be there.
I may be able to take out a loan for gas to get there.
Just a suggestion but the last time we had the one at Landa Park it was an equipment sale/swap. Maybe a good idea along with frags (since I have no frags yet).
Any thoughts on this.

To All,
Just to let everyone know, park admission is $3.00 per person, 13 and older. 13 and under free!
I was thinking that this could be pot luck. Burgers, hot dogs, sausage and etc.

Cool! G, you HAVE to freaking check out the new Sportsman's Warehouse that went in on the N. side of 1604 just east of 281...kind of across 1604 from that Academy.
They had one of these in Oregon before I moved.
KILLER flies for $0.89 each by the dozen....even poppers and spun hair bugs!
Sorry, off topic, got too excited!!!

From Blanco State Park Website, "Flora/Fauna: Hilly terrain consists of cedar, pecan, and other trees.
Wildlife Observation and Photography: nutria, mallard duck, raccoon, armadillo, and squirrel. Fish include winter rainbow trout, perch, catfish, and bass."
Now I do know this much about the fishing, The Rainbows are out of season. Too HOT!! But I have had the park wardens tell me, that some people have caught rainbows in Aug/Sept. There is suppose to be a natural spring in the river that is cold enough for the trout. Now, where this spring is, I do not know. They dump Rainbows below the dam and on the other side of the road, the road is below the dam.

I am not going near the park. I was referring to the store Todd mentioned. I have been to the park before. There is a Mexican Restaurant next to it that used to be a favorite when visiting friends near there. We ate at lunch in Blanco a few weeks ago. You can see the park and river from US 281.
Todd - bring a belly boat if you have one. If not, let me know. I have a spare.
