What is the 4 gallon pressurized storage tank for?
If it has a line to the faucet, one to the fish tank, and one to the 4 gallon tank.....what is the 4 gallow tank for?
I've seen some with them and som without...........do I need it? Should I splerge and get the 4 gallow press. tank?
Sorry if this is a dumb question...never had an RO/DI unit before!

It is a holding tank for drinking water ... personally, I grew up in SA and enjoy chewing my water :roll

Mine sits under my sink for drinking water then I teed off to go to my sump, then another tee off to go to the refridgerator. High blood pressure and water softener don't do well together. I guess I could just change my system over to potassium but needed the ro unit anyways.

So the one I'm looking at has a 5 gallon holding tank, another connection going to a faucet that you have to drill a hole in the sing to put in, and another line coming off for fish tanks Auto Top off.....
can I just run the 5 gallon tank to the ice maker then sense it has a connection for to a faucet for drinking water and another connection for the fish tank?

I've never seen one that has another line specifically for auto topoffs but could be. What you would basically do is tee off of the line going into the tank to go to both the aquarium and another tee to go to the fridge.
Easier said than done. If you want I can take a picture tomorrow and post how it is on mine.

There is a line that goes into the 4 gallon tank and then there is a plub looking thing at the bottom of the tank...is that were you get the water out of the holding tank?
This one definately has an extra line for the aquarium. It has three lines coming out and is listed as:
1. Faucet (going to the little drinking faucet that you drill a hole in the sink and put it there)
2. 4 gL Holding Tank (a line coming off the unit going to the holding tank)
3. Extra Line (says goes to aquarim, extra holding tank, your storage system, etc)
Ad:
dual output, 6-stage 110 gal/day Reverse Osmosis Water System+DI filter (for drinking and aquarium use, include pressure tank and faucet)
......... housing and DI dispensing ball Valve for applications like Reef, Aquarium, hydroponics, humidifier, jewelry cleaning, any application requiring ultra pure water.
If you could take a pic, that would be great.... but how does the water come out of the pressure tank? Does the pressure tank go to the ice maker/frig because it has to have back pressure on it? The reason I started looking at this one is because it has the extra line specificaly for your other applications such as aquariums.
Thoughts?????

Don't mess with the cap on the bottom. That is to pressurize the tank and it is already pre-set. There is a bladder in the tank and air pressure around it, that is what gives you the pressure to shoot the water up to the drinking spout. As the water slowly fills the tank back up when it gets enough pressure in the tank the auto shut off valve will turn off the main water pressure coming into the unit. You can tie in before or after the tank to run to the fishies.

But isn't that what the line saying to ball valve is for????
Sorry...never had one of these and I'm confused!

Is this an OK one? It better be......everything on the internet said it was good and I already bought it! LOL
Might have to put it for sale on here and buy it from myself and then not pay!

This was set-up for a tank.... Yes it looks like the ball valve can send a line straight to the tank.. I should have looked closer at the picture before commenting.

i've been looking at that exact same unit.

Yup, looks like you just run a line from that ball valve to your aquarium or whatever to fill it up. If you wanted to run this to your refridgerator for water/ice you would tee off of the yellow line going into the tank and run to the fridge from there.

I read multiple reviews about this one before I bought it from other reefers and everyone raved about it. I found them for right at $400 and then found everything on ebay for $108. I bought it! LOL
So when the water leaves the pressure tank, where does it go and where does it come out?

Depends on the system. The tank (4 gallons system) on mine actually builds up and then as needed the system fills my sump until the Kent float valve (see link below) automatically cuts it off, or until the refridgerator needs water, or you use the faucet you have to put into the sink. Once those are closed off the tank again fills back up until full then the auto cutoff switch on the RO/DI unit shuts itself down.

Getting there! LOL
So what do the units do that do not have storage tanks? They just filter it the request for water is made?

Without tanks have two styles. Those with auto shutoff valves (look like below link), they shutoff when there is a a blockage of permeate water (good stuff) so you don't continue running waste water down the drain, that is what the float valve on mine does. Then there are those without an auto shutoff valve that will just continue to waste water through the waiste water drain.

So you wouldn't use the ones without the holding tanks for drinking?????
This one came with the auto shutoff, tank, three lines, ball valve, faucet, filters, tubing, flush valve, etc......I think I got a pretty good deal.
I'll hit you up with more questions when it gets here and I'm hooking it up! LOL
Thanks for all the help.

Sounds like a good deal to me. You really couldn't set up one for drinking water without the tank, most outputs of RO units are a dribble of water at a time so filling the tank makes a quick access to the water. That's how the whole air bladder thing works, as the bladder in the tank fills with water the pressure between the tank and the bladder is what forces the water back out and to the faucet.
