All,
I'm originally from Dallas and went home to visit the family this weekend. Well on the way back to Austin, I decided on the fly that I would go to this store having heard great things about it. Oh my, what a mistake that was (for my wallet :blink ). I emerged with ALOT of stuff and I cannot stress to you how incredible this setup truly is.
First off, you walk into the front room and it's full of tanks, and anything you can think of to make your tank run smoothly equiptment wise. Then on to the fish room. The tanks along the walls are spotless and full of gorgeous fish but the real fun part, are the 10 foot acrylic tanks in the middle of the area. I think there were either 4 or 6 and all of them were stocked.
Then, to my surprise, Scott (owner) didn't have a couple of pieces that I asked him about and I got to go behind the scenes. Holy crap, I was a kid in a candy store. 6 30 foot stock tanks, enough sequence pumps to make the room sound like a dull roar, 6500 k 1000 w halide bulbs covering the ENTIRE tank spaces. Two huge protein skimmers larger than me by far! It was just awesome. Then I got to see the "choice" stuff he usually reserves for online orders only (with local pickup). Things I witnessed:
(2) 100+ gorgeous colonies of lord acans
A HUGE beautiful 6+ inch blue acro colony, couldn't tell if it was tabling, it might have just been massive.
A Rainbow Monti that was about 8 inches across and 4 inches wide. It was an ENTIRE rock covered in encrusting montipora. Yellow base with blue polyps then green with green polyps to yellow.
I cannot tell you how professional and incredible his stuff is. He doesn't get his stuff from wholesalers, he gets it straight from the man himself, Walt Smith. I urge you to check his store out if you're EVER in Dallas. You won't be dissapointed.
Here is the website www.extremecorals.com and look at the about us page. That's what I got the tour on today. He claimed he has the largest selling setup in the United States.
I ended up walking out with 3 acro colonies.... whoops :D
Next time I'm in Dallas we should DEFINITELY do a group buy through him. Those tabletops everyone wants, I'm sure Scott could get one and we'd get a babied one locally. I'll be sure to let everyone know when I next go down and we'll start a list of what to look for and what we want, and see what Scott can do.
