I found this tiny, clear bug floating in my tank tonight. Any ideas what it might be?

Sorry for the bad pictures but it's as good as I can get with our crappy camera.

Wow, that thing was awful big. I read this morning on WWM, Bob Fenner saying something about looking at your tank with a flashlight at night and how you'll be amazed and horrified at the same time.

Well, tonight we were both amazed and horrified at the same time.

Where did all these bugs come from? And WHAT was that worm doing under the zoos?!?!

LOL we've never seen stuff like this in the tank before :)

Looked like a good snack, toasted amphipod. Just kidding, it's good for your tank so throw it back in. It probably came from your live rocks.

They'll usually twitch if they're still alive

I find them in my sock filter all the time. I put them back in the tank and the fish go crazy chasing them.

(Wife here) When we found that thing last night, my first reaction was, "That thing is so gross! I hope it didn't come from the tank!" Then I thought about it... "Oh lord, I sure hope it didn't come from the house either!!!"

;) :lol

It is so big compared to the other teensy critters we've been suddenly finding that I didn't think it could be a saltwater bug. Bleh, I still think it's ugly :)

We got new lights just about a week and a half ago and all of a sudden we are finding all kinds of crazy things in the tank! We had some super-cheap lights, whatever came with the tank, for the last six months that we've had the tank. Now we have power compacts, and it's amazing the growth boom in the tank. Our few lil zoos look so much better now, too - healthier.
