View Full Version : shims for tank

I moved my 100 gallon tank from our living room to our den that used to be a garage. I didn't realize how badly the floor sloped until I began leveling the tank. What is the very best way to shim or grout under the stand. It slopes 1/2" on the 5' run of the tank. Right now I have wooden shims (like those used to hang doors) under each corner and in the middle, but don't feel secure enough the way it is. Please help.

Definitely a question for Pete.

Agreed, where is Pete?
1/2 shim is a BUNCH IMO! I would almost think a wood "footing" the size/shape of your stand bottom would be needed ... 1/2 inch shorter on one side and tappered.
Maybe that is overkill? ... Pete???

Pete I'm having trouble figuring out how to post pictures. The front left corner of the stand is 1/4" higher than the left rear corner(the highest part of the floor). the front right corner(the lowest spot of the floor) is 3/4" higher that the left rear corner and 1/2" higher than the front left corner. The right rear corner is 1/2" higher than the left rear corner, and 1/4 lower that the right front corner. Sorry for the grade school word problem but until get the pictures loaded its the best I can do. What would yo suggest I use to shim or grout the gap?

E mail them to me or upload to your gallery. I understand what you are saying, but need to see what supports the tank.

OK Pete I have the next one for you when your done with tgray. Don't want to hijack his thread.
The tank has been up and running for a year. The stand rests level on the floor but can see it is uneven in the water level in the tank. I think the floor is starting to sag underneath it. i made sure it was level before I filled the tank. Anyway to fix this.

75 or 42?
Relieve some pressure (water) and jack the floor (pier and beam?) and then add support.
I feel like dear abby :lol
