Food soaked in Garlic, add it straight to the water also, I think it's one drop per 10 gallons. Feed it all kinds of differant frozen foods. Keep seaweed selects in the tank at all times. Make sure you have a cave of live rocks the Queen can hide in. Good luck

....Garlic DOES NOT cure ick. It prevents it by boosting the fish's immune system. Only copper and hyposalinity kill ick. ( Moderators..Can you sticky this statement?)

Reef69 is correct garlic does not cure ick...however garlic does help with the fishes appetite, and if the fish is eating well then it can possibly fight the ick naturally.

Would do you think of me putting the angel in a big rubbermaid with copper, and how long should i leave it in there, also which treatment type is best.

I'd say as long as being in the rubbermaid doesn't stress your fish out, that would work fine as a temp. QT...HOWEVER if your angel had the crypto in your display, you can pretty much bet the parasite has reproduced in your tank or left resting (nonfeeding) progeny in the substrate or water. SO basically what will happen - even if you cure the fish in the rubbermaid, when you put it back in the tank, the chances for reinfestation will be high unless you let the tank go fallow for a month...and/or reduce the stress that probably induced the outbreak in the first place.

I sincerely believe that when a fish ends up coming down with crypto, that it is brought on by some form of stress that lowers the resistance...stress leads to disease! Whether it be poor water quality, rapid temp. changes, physical trauma, harassment by other tank mates, bad diet, no hiding places in the rockwork, overcrowding, etc., etc. If that stress is not eliminated, then you're pretty much fighting a losing battle. Stress can kill a fish purely from exhaustion, not to mention succumbing to diseases that normally wouldn't affect them.

As far as treating the fish, like Diego said - copper is going to be your best bet. There is a LONG thread over on Reef Central about some experimentation using grated ginger root in the fish's food to get rid of the crypto...seems to be working for almost everybody - BUT it IS experimental at this point. Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

Yes I know Garlic does not kill Ich but neither does copper. Sorry I believe that Garlic helps a fish build up an ammune system to differant disease's. Ich is always around it waits for a fish's immune to go down either because of new tank syndrome, being moved or something else that creates stress. I think Abe said he did not have a quarantine tank so my answer was an alternative to having one. We all know in the perfect world we should all have a 55 gallon quarantine tank with copper tested daily and hiding place's. This tank should be placed out of the way so the fish feels secure for a minimum of two weeks. At this time there is only one fish store that's performs this task for us in the S. A. area.

In a perfect world we all should have a 55 gal. QT tank?.. Didnt know that. Any tank will do the job, a 10 gal. 20 gal. any size, does NOT matter. Ive succesfuly cured blue hippos in a 10 gal. tank doing hypo and copper, clownfish out of brookynella in an eclipse 3 using hypo and formalin. That 55 gal. statement isnt true. There are only two proven methods for the treatment of Marine "Ich", copper and hyposalinity.*

I don't think a 6" queen angel would do too well in a 10 gallon qt tank for two weeks. I am not debating the issue of to use copper or not to use. I have added fish to my tanks that came down with Ich, I fed them garlic soaked foods and or added garlic to the water when they would not eat the garlic soaked food and in a couple of days the ich was gone.

Im not saying for him to add a 6 in. angel to a 10 gal..a 20 gal. works aswell, I was only saying that it is NOT necessary to have a 55 gal. QT tank. Its not written in stone. Garlic opens up the fish appetite, the fish eats, therefore it consumes vitamins and fatty acids that make him healthier and able to fight ick. Garlic doesnt cure anything.

Its going to be tmporary..not forever..

ich is always present in the marine environment....nothing is forever, including copper. But as long as the fish are healthy, they will be (more) resistant

Actually copper will stay in a tank once dosed...probably the only way to remove it is by using a poly filter or CupriSorb by Sea Chem. I believe it changes color so you can see all the copper being removed.
